Pete Buttigieg said that the economy under former President Barack Obama was not working for most Americans, during a Tuesday interview with WMUR in New Hampshire.

"The Democrats could, in fact, find a way to lose this election, and the way we would lose is if we look like all we have to offer is a return to the old status quo -- because that wasn't working either," he said.

Buttigieg said part of the reason Trump was elected in the first place was that voters lost confidence in the economic direction of the country during Obama's eight-year tenure.

"We also can't go back to what we had before," Buttigieg continued. "It is time for a new normal where the economy actually works for most of us, and we actually feel that our country is getting ahead. We don't have that now, and that's part of how this president got here in the first place."

Let me know when the Dems select a nominee.

Most leftists/socialists agree with Trump's trade and economic plans. 100% agree. I've been saying as much for years.

Just read an article where China has agreed to throw the election for Trump. Russia in a supporting role in 2020.

How does it work for everybody? Right now, the economy is the best it's ever been for all ethnicities but the libs are saying it's not working for everybody. Does that mean that they want more ethnicities on welfare? Is that what they want? In any economy, you are going to have the haves and the have nots.

This has been my point the entire Trump presidency. This is too good. I am not deflecting anything. I have said for years that Trumps/radical leftists/socialists views on populist trade, spending, handouts and government control of the economy is what I am most against. Your fellow Trumpers now pine for Trump and his Daddy government to save them from China, or whatever competition they can't face. The fact you are too partisan blind to even see that Trump is what you claim to despise is just the cherry on top.

I thought they believed in a complete laissez-faire economic policy of no government control, let the market take care of the economy. Instead, they are all for tariffs (BIG government) and business restrictions (BIGGER government)...........

Competition? How about theft. How about you are too stupid to care whether we, as a country, are continually ripped off by Chinese theft. If the Chinese didn't steal everything, I'd be with you. The only thing Trump has given out has been the stuff to farmers. Your democrat party is the party of giveaways.

Here we go again...How does a US company who wants to do business in China compete against a socialist/communist China? Easy answer, they can't. You cannot have fair trade with an economy run by a central gov. China played the typical long con, offer cheap labor and once they dominate the supply chain, dictate a new set of rules where China controls everything.

I guess you thought the USA was wrong to force the War of 1812. We should have let England enslave our sailors and control our trade with other countries as the ship owners were at the mercy of English Navy.

I'm not sure what he really cares about. Free trade is free trade. It is not rip off trade. I do understand, why rock the boat. Let them steal it cause it looks like they are only stealing from companies run by leftist anyway.

Lower costs, find a different market, innovate, grow, move on. Same way we have been doing it to tremendous wealth. It's hilarious you sadsacks hiding behind the federal government pretend the last 40 years didn't happen.

Here we go again, the last 40 years did happen, but you cannot fathom that the opportunity lost could be HUUGE because we did not put China on notice. China is granted MFN-Developing Nation status (how is the #2 GDP country have that designation) do you think the US industry would have more or less wealth?

He argues for status quo but agrees China needed combatted, yet doesn’t want to actually do anything about it but “TPP” which has zero forcing function to it And would’ve required a decades worth of potential assumption to come to fruition and China to remain static. But status quo. Insane TDS.

1,000,000% agree. Don't agree that tariffs will get us anywhere near that. I like arresting Chinese corporate bigwigs that use stolen IP. As nerdy as it sounds, using the WTO, etc. Tariffs cost us money and does nothing to combat IP theft.

You’ve literally proffered no way to punitively deal with China. You’ve acknowledged it needed to happen, but provided nothing. You been asked over the course of several weeks by numerous posters in numerous threads and every time you get on a Orange Man tariff bad kick and resort to calling us names.

It’s been quite funny.

Your "outrage" over Trump's alleged growing of the Federal government is just another glaring example of why I refer to you as a "congential" liar. You are no more upset with Trump's alleged "growing" of Government, than you are about all of the Democrat plans to grow it beyond it's ability to pay for all the unaffordable new growth (which btw YOU have been 100% silent on while you carp about Trump's deficits)[eyeroll]

You simply are not paying attention attention, or as I said you're an insufferable congenital liar if you think Trump has been expanding Government like any common Socialist would. If you were sincere in your desires to see Government shrink, you'd be standing and applauding this agenda.

Trump keeps his pledge to shrink the size of Government

excerpt:
The administration’s effort to reshape the workforce of nearly 2 million civil servants that serve as the backbone of the government has provoked a contentious culture shift.

Federal workers fret their jobs could be zeroed out amid buyouts and early retirement offers that have prompted hundreds of their colleagues to leave, according to interviews with three-dozen employees across the government. Many have chafed as supervisors lay down new rules they say are aimed at holding poor performers and problem workers to account.

A hiring freeze technically lifted in the spring has been kept in practice at most agencies, hollowing out many offices. And the slow pace of political appointments has left a number of departments with a leadership vacuum in their upper ranks.

Trump wants to reduce regulations to 1960 levels
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...federal-regulations-pre-1960-level/953072001/

excerpt:
Trump took a pair of gold scissors to a ribbon linking two mounds of paper — one representing regulations as they existed in 1960 and the other representing today's code.
The 1960 code: about 20,000 pages. Today: more than 185,000.

The event marked the release of a usually unheralded government document called the Unified Agenda of Regulatory and De-regulatory Actions, a semiannual update of rules that federal agencies have in the pipeline. Trump signed an executive order in January requiring agencies to repeal two regulations for every new regulation adopted.

None of them ever argues for us duplicating Venezuela's shining Socialist example while they complain Trump's leading us head long into a Socialist's utopia. Meantime, Democrat Presidential candidates are promising the greatest Socialist smorgasbord in history of "free stuff" and not one of them complains about any of it.

Ignore them, they're dishonest, desperate and equally delusional.

That article from the end of 2017 speaks of fears of federal employees, but the number of people working for the fed hasn't decreased under Trump. You can look it up, because I did. In 2018, the total number was 2.1 million. It hasn't really wavered more than a few tens of thousands one way or the other since 2012.

There is an ongoing effort to both reduce the Federal workforce as well as eliminate duplicate Federal programs and/or agencies. It's not easy as one of the articles I linked to quoted one Trump admin official and a good deal of the resistance is coming from the very people who's jobs would be eliminated without their ongoing obstruction.

However the point of my linking those articles was simply to show where Trump's philosophy rests in relation to growing Government...whether it be through reduced regulations, reduced taxes, reduced programs, reduced funding, or reduced workforce, the emphasis is to shrink Government and it's not arguable. Coop is arguing Trump is embarking on a Socialist agenda of expanding Government and that is a congenital lie.

Why do you think he (Trump) is so universally hated among swamp dwellers?
