You only have the legal right to fire until there is no longer a threat. You must be able to account for every shot. You shoot somebody in the chest and they fall to the ground then you double tap them then you are going to jail. Plainly and simply.

The poster said he shot the person in two different places. Head and chest. If he fired twice into the chest he would have a much easier time in explaining the 2nd shot that if he went chest/head. That is begging to be convicted.

Another way to look at it is that it will be MUCH easier to explain six shots in the chest than it will for one shot in the chest then another shot in the head.

I suppose you think that the shooter take the time to check for a pulse before shooting again? Again you are full of bs least by NC standards of the Castle Doctrine. Dead is dead, whether from one bullet or six. You break in my house, you have forfeited all your rights.

I have an 870 Remington for home defense, but I have never subscribed to the sound of racking a shell will deter anyone who is breaking into your home, knowing that you are there. IMO anyone who forcibly tries to enter your home while you are obviously there is either crazy, desperate, on drugs or a combination of all three.

I'm almost 42 and never owned a gun. I would like to buy a gun, but my wife will think I'm buying it to kill her.

How you do reassure your wife that you aren't buying a gun to kill them?
Tell her the one you have been using on her is wore out and a new one when lubed fires better.

LCP is nowhere near $325 except maybe at Cabelas. Kentucky Gun Company, among others, has the LCP for $199, and the LCP Custom for $227.

Both are good carry guns, but the Custom has actual sights, unlike the standard LCP and its bump of a front sight. Trigger is much improved as well. The downside is that the front sight will snag on some holsters (mostly generic "small auto" ones), but companies are finally starting to make holsters specifically for the Custom that correct that issue. My wife and I both carry the LCP Custom - I normally pocket carry in a Desantis Nemesis, and she prefers the Desantis Sof-Tuck IWB, both of which are now made to fit the Custom.
You are correct, I was pricing the LCP 9 pro, which I like. Why I typed LCP is beyond me

Yeap, own a few handguns. Bought the Ruger .380 here at Sherwood Guns for $199. Every now and again they run a special. You can buy the .380 or 9MM Ruger for $199-$219. I carry it in my pocket, perfect size.

Not a weapons expert at all (I have only fired it twice and have owned it for over a year), but mf's be crazy now days.

what holster do you use for pocket carry on your Ruger?

fits right in your pocket - breaks up the outline. keeps lint out of the mechanism. exterior material has "drag" so that if/when you draw the pocket holster stays in your pocket while the LCP comes out. very effective for the method intended by the Ruger design. Even for women who might carry an LCP in purse, this is a very good item. I'm not a fan of the LCP, but it is because this handy Blackhawk item exists that I own one. Sometimes you need something really small, or you may not have a lot of time . . . just grab it and put the whole thing in your damn pocket and there you are. Not the best protection but a hell of a lot better than zero.

One thing is certain a .380 on you is better than a .45 in the gun safe.

How many of you gunslingers walking around ready to shoot it out at the drop of the hat have actually had to use your weapon do defend yourself?

The DeSantis SuperFly is a good one as well, and reasonable @ about $17 on Amazon, but it has a "sticky" fabric back that clings to the inside of your pocket so you don't end up pulling the holstered gun out of your pocket on a draw. It has a removable front flap that does a real good job of breaking up the outline of the gun, so it ends up looking like a large wallet or a phablet in your pocket.

I have the Nemesis from Desantis as well - also a nice holster, but it doesn't have the front cover, so the outline of the pistol will print pretty hard if you're wearing jeans, much like the el cheapo pocket holster that comes with the LCP does. You can fix it like I did by riveting a square piece of leather onto the holster, but you can also avoid that entirely by going with the SuperFly.

The sticky fabric on those really does help with keeping the holster in your pocket when you practice pulling the weapon and/or have to draw it for use, so IMO it is something to look for.

The one problem with it (and most pocket holsters) is that there isn't a lot of retention for the weapon - it is just a slide in holster made for guns in a certain size range, so if you have loose pockets, there is a chance of it slipping out. Not a problem if your going to be out walking, etc., but if you're going to be spending a lot of time on a bar stool watching a game for instance, you might want to consider IWB carry over pocket. Never hurts to have a couple different holsters and options anyway.

First off a great percentage of gun carriers hope to never have to use it. I carry and pray that I never have to unholster my weapon. It amuses me that those afraid of guns think those who do carry are hoping for an opportunity to shoot someone.

Second I would be okay with the fact that I carried it 40 years in a row and never needed it. I would, however, hate to think that I might run into a situation that I needed it to defend my life or my families lives from harm and I wasn't ready or able to do so.

Came close. Guy thought I cut him off in a parking lot, or some ****. Comes over to my car, enraged, starts hitting his fists into my window. Cussing, etc.

Been a few other incidents.

I also have a natural talent for enraging people though.

When I was younger, I loved street fighting. Now I'm older, one miss, lucky punch, etc. and I'm on ground getting my head kicked in. Touch that noise. Too old to fight. Don't want brain damage, etc. It was once I had kids, the need became more prevalent.

Never mind. My opinion on a home defense weapon had already been discussed by others. Should have finished reading the entire thread before posting.

Willy - I believe what would reassure your wife as to your intentions of buying a weapon would be to buy extra insurance on her. I think she might find that very thoughtful. [winking]

Cabelas had the new Ruger LCP 2 on sale for $269.00, then Cabelas gave me a $30.00 coupon, so total cost $239.00. I thought that was a good deal.

An ounce of prevention works in most cases. Being prepared does too. Even if you never have to use it, it could be peace of mind for some. Especially women.

As a huge gun enthusiast (own around 90 firearms and family has class liscense As well as run the largest gun show in Tennessee), my advice.

If she's scared of guns it usually means she doesn't understand them. Iraqiveteren8888 videos are the best at understanding weapons imo. Find the informative ones and show her.

As far as what kind of gun, if you're only buying one, I wouldn't buy anything but Glock. I'm bias though, I own 8 Glocks and prefer them over anything. They are the most durable, most dependable, and the customer service is second to none. If the gun needs it (rarely do even with age), they will upgrade parts for free. The customization of Glock is also the best. They are the AK47 of handguns, and number one. If I only had one gun, it would be a glock19. Also Glock factory high cap mags just out Glock
Over the top. 33 round 9mm mags, 22 round .40 mags. Nothing beats going to my range and blasting blow targets with 2 Glocks loaded with 66 rounds.

Haven't fired either so wouldn't feel comfortable saying. I generally don't like hi point, but that's subjective. Did some quick reading on the MK22 and it appears there may be some reliability issues (jamming, failing to fire, etc). Again, no personal experience so take that with a 10lb bag of salt.

The Kel-Tec SUB-2000 gen2 is ~$500ish and is the top of the class in pistol caliber carbines imo.

I own a Kel Tech Gen2 sub2000. I upgraded it with a red lion rail. I can have optics and fold. This thing is awesome. Takes my Glock high cap 22 round .40 mags.

Wouldn't own a high point but if it's in your budget they are a good choice.

What's the recoil like with the .40 cal? I've heard some pretty different opinions on how sharp it is

I've shot the 9mm and it's definitely less recoil. I use mine as a truck carbine and don't really use it outside of 20 yards so the recoil isn't an issue for me. I also prefer .40 caliber and carry a Glock 23 so my magazines are interchangeable. I love that it holds my 22 round Glock high cap mags, and if I buy another one I'll go with the 9mm gen2 For my 33 round high cap Glock mags and leave it factory for less weight. I'd say if you really want the best for recoil the 9mm would be my aim.

Here's my setup. Red lion has done an incredible job modifying the sub2000. Adds some weight but like I said I use mine for an emergency weapon.

If anything I'd suggest the rail modification for optics.

Also, I'm no fan of high point, but their carbine is solid for the money.

Thanks for the input. I'd love to own a 9mm Sub2K, but my god they are hard to find. Currently considering getting the PSA glock upper and lower AR-9. Of course, they are all sold out too currently.

Yea Kel Tech isn't really in the mass production business. I've seen 50 or so hit the market and be gone in hours. I'll make a note of it and keep you in mind during some up coming gun shows in Nashville. I usually come across them a few times a year.

About how much is the street price?

If you wait until our criminal gun loophole street show, they go for a few dollar bills or an opioid. And you don't even need a background check!

In all seriousness I paid 400 for mine two years ago at the show in Nashville. They're getting expensive.

Glock fan here too -- do you have any experience with the Mech Tech conversion carbines for Glocks? If so, what are your thoughts?

I do have one. Haven't used it in a long time, but I always try Glock mods in differing styles. I've got the 9mm system.

To me, I wasn't a huge fan. Doesn't lock back, and I hated the sound. Doesn't configure. was really heavy for what it is.

It's really well built though.

For a smaller carbine I've really enjoyed the sub2000. So much so that I'm going to purchase another.

What Glocks do you have? You a collector?

I understand this, My son is the same way. And i KNOW Glocks are good, but for some reason i never fell in love with them. I more of a Sig, Walther guy. But as i said before, my everyday carry is a S&W Shield

Hey man everyone is different. The shield is a very dependable and comfortable gun. Glocks don't fit everyone's hand, and you can get some talon grips etc if it helps.

The thing about Glock, especially for a first time gun owner, is the simple nature of it. You don't have to pre clean, it's extremely simple to understand and takedown, and it is the most dependable. I've got Glocks that's are 25 years old and haven't been cleaned in over a decade. Glocks aren't guns, they are tools. Built by a tool maker.

I also believe they are beautiful (something some laugh at).

Then it comes down to accessories and modifications, factory built magazines, and customer service.

They're simply unbeatable.

But I also own some Sigs and I love my 1911's.

I'd be a collector...if I wasn't married, ha.

I've got a 26, 30SF, 20SF, and a 43. The 20 is prolly my fave, and a blast (literally) to shoot. The 10mm is an under-appreciated round, IMH(and non-professional)O.

I agree completely. I just had my first kid and another on the way. I sold one of my guns for the first time a few months ago. I own a lot but I've been collecting monthly for 15 years now and 1/3 of them were handed down. I just moved into a new house and I'm building a little cinema and gun room. I'll post some pics when it's completed.

The 10mm round is an extremely superior round. if I were a cop it would be 10mm for sure.

Sweet, look forward to it. Congrats on the young-uns -- I s'pose kids should prolly trump guns, but it's a close call.

Trump guns.........

I wonder if he's thought of that? :)

Yea I sold one of my belt feds. I plan on buying another in the future. Maybe the 9mm semi auto they're putting out for 2,500. We recently bought a new house and I needed the extra cash to fix a few of the rooms. I told her if you ask me to sell another one I'll hate the kids forever. I said, I said, B****, they made street corners for a reason!
