Makes very little sense for him from a competitive standpoint, but I won’t mind getting his garbage ball out of the SEC if it’s true.

from a competitive standpoint... he still has the "name" of the ACC conference, but the conference is so much weaker, that he should be able to get plenty of wins & a higher seed for the NCAAT.

Also, don't disagree that getting one less rugby on hardwood team out of the SEC will be nice... depending on who replaces him.

Remember, Maryland is Big 10 now.

He's a good coach, kind of weird, but always competitive. It looks like a lateral move to me, but money talks.

Any A&M players we can pluck?
Looks like 8/16 players on their roster were seniors (might be part of the reason Buzz was ready to move on). Only one non-senior has stats of any note: Pharrel Payne (10.4 pts/5.1 rbs), and he's a junior. There's some very superficial analysis for you but it doesn't seem like there's much to see there. Maybe a 10th man type player at best, someone to stash for a future season.

Buzz is so weird….I always enjoy his long form interviews on podcast. He seems incredibly thoughtful and he is a prodigious reader and letter writer. Yet, everywhere he has ever worked he wears out his welcome after 4-5 years and then moves to take another job???
It’s especially weird because he’s never really been losing and on the hot seat when he leaves, and there’s no substantial rumors that I’m aware of about him being a bad person behind the scenes. He just likes making lateral moves every few years for whatever reason. There’s certainly worse things you could say about someone, but it’s definitely not a typical career trajectory for a head coach.

He may think Texas is going to be a much tougher opponent and wants to avoid the pressure of that rivalry. Just a thought …

I feel like this is just what he does. Didn't he go from Marquette to VT? VT was absolutely horrible when he took them over and definitely wasn't an upgrade over Marquette.

Glad this TRASH is out of the SEC. He's a phony.

Hilarious aspect to this move--Maryland's AD left to be the AD at SMU. So they just hired Buzz Williams without an Athletic Director. LOL

Buzz and Terps are a perfect marriage.

Trev Alberts is the A&M AD right? If so...does he look at guys he knows like the always overrated Fred Hoiberg? Or does he actually conduct a search and get a guy who can coach?

He'll also be responsible for the TV fans of Big Ten teams to raise so much hell we get different start times-or they'll just relegate him to Peacock Games where nobody watches due to the length of the game and his stupid whiteboard antics and timeouts for 0 reason.

I always like Buzz. Can't really see the lateral move I know A&M has money.

Probably a fairly large buyout also. I think he had 3 years left on his contract.

The Bad thing about the coaching changes these days is the portal timing.
You need to get a coach in the next week or so or you will just miss out on next years team.

Is there a coach in the country who wants the refs to go to the monitor to review plays so he can get a free time out more than Buzz?
