Back to OT. Dumping a coach mid season could be the best thing for TCU at this point. Patterson hasn't produced in the last few years. It looks like the program is tired and the game has changed leaving TCU behind. Patterson is in the last years of his career and from what my TX friends say he is just looking for a retirement package.
It will be interesting to see ihow their not #8 recruiting class ends up. 8 commits so far. 3 of the 4 decommits have happened since 11/1.
This could end up being a friggin disaster this year but looking at the total direction under Patterson it could be a quick turn around. Just depending on how fast they get a named HC in place to save the late signing period. Lots of room for JC's and Portals to make a name for themselves on a P5 roster.
Did they pull the trigger too soon? Given the pool of coaches will certainly expand at the end of the season, unless they have someone they have already contacted and will pull the trigger when they (the new hire) wraps up their season.

I'm thinking this may be the new norm. If you know you're going to fire a coach or he is going to retire at the end of the year why not get out in front of it. This makes your search easier to conduct as you don't have to hide behind the bushes when you want to talk to someone. You can be up front in calling coaches to see if they would be interested. You can be up front with recruits telling them to wait to see who you bring in.
Down side is that the rest of the season may be tanked because of apathy from other coaches who don't know if they will have a job or not (most likely not). You don't know if coaches looking to go to other teams will sabotage your recruits and try to get them to flip.
