Final take: This sets the stage now for something big
***Nebraska will hold at least two practices on their bye week and they will begin regular Iowa game week preparations on Sunday next week. Multiple Husker coaches, including Riley will also spend time on the road this week recruiting.

Does this mean the two practices this week are focused on Iowa if most of the coaches are out recruiting?

Hopefully everyone behind the scenes is working on strategies and prep for the Iowa game to use the bye week to our advantage instead of only using the normal one week of prep for a team.

Anyone know how it might work with the first bye week for the new staff?

Sounds like the players are getting a couple days off
i am surprised the Big 10 Conference would let one team have a bye week when the other team is playing on a short week.Huge advantage to Nebraska. If you play on Friday both teams should play the week before

Pretty weak take. Bye weeks happen when they happen.

I am of the belief that the bye week is detrimental.. you lose timing and sharpness on both sides of the ball. You can almost count on the first quarter being flat for the team with the bye week. You see this same effect in bowl games where it takes a team an entire half to get back in the groove. I think they would be better off practicing all week like usual and having a short scrimmage on Saturday.

The players need some physical downtime. There will be tons of film review and game planning. No way they would not take advantage of the time to better prepare and get healed up. This game is big for this team.

We've been practicing straight through since August. The players aren't going home like during the holiday season. A few days off will do us good. I expect us to come out fast and hard against Iowa.

I am sure they will not be watching any film or developing the game package this week. Probably just play pitch in the football offices all week.

Recovery and fundamentals are the two top priorities during bye week, with the current team. One of the worse bye weeks for a new staff is to have it so late in the season - not just from a recovery aspect but from a fundamental aspect as well. Plus there's recruiting and the staff will be in and out all week long, coast to coast.

Good point about the coaches. I think the players being in school and around the practice facilities will keep them in a routine. And hopefully that will negate any problems.

Pretty typical bye week for most schools. A lot of fans are under the assumption "they prepare for an extra week for _____", which sure it allows them more study time, etc...

However, a lot of teams typically do treat it as a week off to rest up, coaches recruit, etc...

MSU had a bye-week before playing us.

What MSU did coming out of a bye week has no bearing on what we do coming out of a bye week. Every coaching staff is different. Some are good at preparing during a bye week and some aren't. Maybe Dantonio and his staff aren't, but I saw on another thread somebody said Riley's record at OSU was 14-6 coming off a bye week. With some pretty impressive wins against #7 Oregon, #1 USC and another #7 team.
