I'm just not a lifer, I don't want to be doing this at 70, I just don't," said Calipari. "Now maybe when I'm 70, this stuff becomes so much fun that every year five guys are going in the first round and we're alright, but this thing is a unique animal here now."

6:15 mark of interview "right now there's a couple players on my team that I have zeroed in on to get better"... stop listening to the clutter, stop listening to anybody that's telling you anything that's different than what we're saying.

I'm guessing Ulis and Lee based on PT last game.

Those 15 years might just seperate us from the pack.

That would be an incredible story and there should be many books written on it by that time.

I'm surmising that if Cal stays that long, we'll surpass UCLA in championships easily.

I would like to hear from Mrs Calipari before I get too excited about that sort of stay.

I'd sign on for 15 more years of Cal, even if the last 5 he was more of a figurehead like Bobby Bowden at the end at FSU. Be 67 years old and crazy fans will still be be wanting him farrrd, hasn't won a title in 3 years.

Agree. IMO, I can see the Calipari's selecting the East coast as a retiring destination. One daughter lives there and once Brad graduates from college he might prefer to live there too, since he's currently attending prep school in Massachusetts. Granted, this is all speculation since I obviously don't know them personally.

I will be content with Cal staying on for 4 more years if Brad decides to attend UK as a walk-on as many have speculated. That would put Cal at around 60 years old and would give us an opportunity to perhaps tie UCLA. Any more years we get to keep him after that would be a blessing.

Maybe it's just me but it didn't sound in any shape or form he was acting like he was staying that.

On another note he got some jabs at other coaches. Said if a kid wants to go to the NBA and isn't ready, I won't dog them to the media

Thank you. Great interview. Not a big fan of listening to Rome talk for hours at a time, but I love his interviews. One of my favorite sports persons interviewers.

Cal would be in his grave if he tried to keep the same pace until 70. No way he can sustain it. He's amazing, but not superhuman.

I have a suspicion Calipari stays at Kentucky provided he has at least one "super team" every other year or so.

It's a bit more difficult to consider the NBA or retirement when you've locked up 3 or 4 top ten recruits and have a viable shot at a national championship.

He could go any direction with the equity he has built now. Just enjoy the ride....however long it lasts.

I don't see him riding the mechanical bull too much longer, not at the pace he's set it at. Tubby and Joe B. lasted 10 or more because they only had championship contenders once every three or four years on average.

I just think that Calipari loves everything about Kentucky. He loves the Wildcats, the players, the great fanbase, etc. That is why he wanted the Kentucky job before coming here 5 years ago. He always mentioned how every night when Kentucky Basketball Coaching position was open after Tubby, then after Billy Gillispie he would ask his wife if Kentucky called about their opening. I remember him always saying saying when at Memphis is that the only school he would leave for Memphis in the NCAA was Kentucky at that was on the Jim Rome Show. Cal's new contract extension that was for 7 years at 53,000,000, which is approx. 8$,000,000 annually and has a Retention Bonus for 2.5 million avg to stay at UK will be hard for any NBA team to match that salary.
The Cleveland contract was 8 yrs. at 64,000,000 for 8 mil annually for coach and total control was turned down because I do believe that Cal wants to retire here at UK. The average NBA Salary is approx. 3-4 million annually. Doc Rivers is at 7 mil annually and Spurs Popovich is near the 7mil and Kerr and Fisher at 5mil. So, it looks like Mitch has tried to max out Cal's salary for an NBA team having to pay Cal around $10mil to go back to NBA. The Lebron and Cavs wanting Coach Cal as you see with Coach Blatt doesn't always work in the NBA no matter how many all-stars you have on team and the Head Coach you have with James, Love, and Irving. James, Irving, and now Varejao out for season. That is why I believe Coach Cal does retire at Kentucky.

Yeah I don't buy the leaving for the NBA for just money. He's got plenty of money and we could get pretty close to any NBA offer. He'd only leave if he retires or just wanted to challenge himself again in the NBA.

I think he should run for Governor after his time here. He's a born politician if I've ever seen one lol.
