Think it’s going to be very difficult to keep Whitehead, Mitchell and Lively out of the starting lineup next year. If Flip comes in and plays up to his ranking then I could see Whitehead playing at scoring guard if Flip and Roach or Starling can stretch the defense by hitting 3 pointers. Hopefully, we will have some rich folks problems at multiple positions.
You can believe flip and lively are starting at the four and five.
Flip, Lively and Dariq are all starting next year. I see we just got another prediction for Mark Mitchell so if he comes to town, how does he not start either? It's a wonderful problem to have, but man we could be extra young next year. I really would love to have a junior J Roach on that team.
Duke will be very young next season. However it’s the size and interchangeable players that will make up for youth. It’s all about the players buying in and working hard.
I agree all 3 start. Roach should be back. As I've said I think we need one of Keels or Moore back to really be great; otherwise we will be talented but too young. Moore may move on after this year, and Keels with his size will go if his jump shot can show promise. Roach and Keels back would be amazing. I suppose Roach and 4 freshman could cut the nets down; but those guys would need to be Fab 5 good.
I think he’s always going to go after the best players and mix in a few multiple year guys.
I don't disagree with you about Moore Chris, but where would he go? Europe? Transfer?

I think Moore should stay. But he is also a borderline NBA player next year and former 5 star, who may decide to try his luck overseas or getting a 2 way contract like Hurt. If he has a good year and can be a consistent scorer. I would love to have a senior Moore. Getting guys like him to stay can be just as important as landing new 5 stars.

We need Roach, Blakes, and at least one more guy to come back. Then, add Mitchel, Starling and maybe a transfer.
I hope so, as he is foundation of this recruiting class. If he goes to Syracuse, Ohio State or even Kentucky then I’m not sure that we land all the other big pieces of this class. IMO, Flip has to come in and be a better player than Hurt as a Freshman to start next year. Both Hurt and Flip had very similar games coming out of high school. If Flip wants to start, he needs to be at the level Hurt was as a Sophomore by the time Flip’s Freshman season starts.
I think Kyle is much more well rounded than Hurt. He is a little bigger, stronger, and probably will be much better than Hurt rebounding and on D. He should also be a better scorer down low and a better passer. Hurt is the better perimeter shooter, but Kyle is very good too. Let's just hope none of these guys play like freshmen.
Moore is a true NBA sg. He can defend the 2-4. He is a good but not elite athlete and as long as he continues to improve his shot he will be an NBA bench player.
hurt can’t defend quicker nba fours or small forwards. He got his two way because of his shooting.
the scouting report on Moore coming into college has always been how well he will adjust to playing against players his size with his strength. As we’ve seen it’s been an adjustment but his strongest suite is attacking the basket and we have all seen glimpses of how good he can be when he’s on . Hopefully this season we see a big up swing in his confidence.
This. Have to manage expectations for 18/19 year olds. Unless they’re a top 5-7 recruit, it’s going to take time for them to adjust.
Yes but this is also why getting lively was so crucial to this class. It will allow Flip to play at his natural position without having to switch to center.
This isn’t going to be like Bagley and Carter. This is more of an NBA style front court in the modern era. A center that can defend score downlow run the floor and take the three when open followed by a stretch four that can shoot the three score within 17 feet of the basket and rebound.
my expectations for this class is simple. Youth is the biggest factor against them. However the team being assembled with them allows for each player to rotate and help each other not to mention Scheyer first year as a head coach. Making it to the tourney as a first year coach is my expectations for the 2022-23 team. Anything past that will be a joy to watch.
I totally agree with not expecting/demanding too much from freshmen. The problem with Hurt was that if he wasn't scoring, he was a liability. That is why he was criticized so much his freshman year. Unfairly, I thought. Also, his rating came from his offense. Guys are more likely to be over-rated based on good offense than other parts of the game..
I think Kyle will have a lot less pressure on him to score. He is also the kind of player who can quietly impact the game without flashy stats. If his offense is not there yet, he still could contribute a lot. Think of a 6'10" David McClure.

Not a McClure think of him as a more established Ryan Kelly. He has the team first mentality . He wants Scheyer and Smith to exceed as coaches and has already bought into Scheyer’s system with our having one practice underneath him. To me that speaks volumes.
Totally agree with the team first approach and buying in. That's part of what made me think of McClure.

I think Kyle might come in as more of an all around contributor and later on excel as a scorer. Kind of Kelly in reverse, mainly because Kyle will be more physically ready than Ryan Kelly was as a freshmen. Most importantly, Kelly and McClure were great kids that did a great job representing Duke. Whatever Kyle achieves or doesn't achieve on the court, I believe that he will represent Duke in a manner that makes us all proud.

Kelly and McClure also took a while to really contribute. I just see Lively and Whitehead as those guys(impact freshman from day one). Flip will be a good player; I just think expecting junior year Kelly/McClure right out of the gate might not be realistic. Who knows maybe I'm wrong.
Readiness is the million dollar question. Ryan was very good, but definitely not ready as a freshman. He had the height and skill, but not the strength or explosiveness. McClure wasn't explosive enough or skilled enough to excel as a freshman. To me, he needed to be taller and or stronger at his ability level or more skilled or explosive at his height.
That's why I think Kyle has a chance to contribute right away. Similar body and athleticism as McClure, but way longer. Maybe a touch better shooter as well. Similar height and overall skill level as Ryan, but stronger and more aggressive (hopefully) as a freshman.
If he can't contribute right away, I hope everyone is patient with him. He is a really good kid, good student, hard worker, and very likeable.
