But seriously I don’t like this pick up for them. I think he’ll be a major contributor right away and he’ll probably somehow end up staying 3-4 years.

I'd really like to see a K vs. Roy comparison of a 247 recruit ranking/draft position ratio with some sort of combined metric of how many years they played in college. I wonder if Roy really has done less with more.

We've had our share of top 30 recruits develop slowly: Zoubs, Thornton, Bolden, Gbinije.

Nothing as sad as Nas Little or Seventh Woods, but still.

Here are all of the UNC kids that were top 25 kids since Roy's been there... I included Coby White and Brice Johnson, since they were drafted. His recruits are finally starting to be OADs. There was a 10-year gap in between Brandan Wright and Tony Bradley.

Duke has definitely produced top picks no doubt ... not sure on seventh woods, i would agree that he peaked really early, that being said nas sat behind a lottery pick, not much roy could do in that situation

He had options. He could have started Maye at the 5 and Little at the 4. Or had Cam and Nassir starting on the wing - with Maye and Brooks in the frontcourt. Roy likes his seniors - and he likes his two traditional bigs. That's what won out. Nassir was more efficient than Kenny Williams and Garrison Brooks.

Thanks for the visual. I'd show this to top 25 guys considering UNC if I was recruiting against them.

True, but in the last few years, Ol Roy could argue that he’s adapting to the game.

Duke has had its share of 5 stars that stayed at least 2 seasons.

Roy would've benefited by playing Maye at the 5 and move Nas to the 4 spot. Nassir was utilized horribly under Roy and it showed. Nassir was a top 3 recruit and didn't start or average more than 10 points a game.

Bottom line is that Roy is building his best class he’s ever had at UNC. So that sucks. Having said that, should be fun watching the spin all the THR holier than thou fans who said they’d stop rooting for unc if “Roy ever went the OAD ROUTE”. Roy never shied away from OADs, he just wasn’t landing them.

The thing is, they’re probably not OAD.

Caleb Love definitely isn’t, which kinda sucks for us because he probably will be a really good multi-year guy.

Z Williams 100% would be if they land him. Even though K would utilize him so much better and he would excel at Duke, probably be mediocre for Roy.
I think Kessler and Sharpe were also recruited to be OAD, and will be hilarious when they aren’t.

I dunno about that... Felton/May/McCants/Noel were an incredible class... not sure if he recruited them all, but he had them...? But sure, this class could be great. F Roy.

Actually, I thought Roy's best class was Ty Lawson, Sean May, Danny Green and Wayne Ellington.

it was Wright, Ellington and Lawson. will be hard to ever top that for Roy. he landed 3 guys that were #1 at their position. he also had Stepheson and Thompson in that class who were solid 4 stars too

Wright, that's correct. Don't forget that he also added Will Graves to that class.

I have been reading that Ziaire Williams is most likely to stay West of the Mississippi.

Keep in mind he was able to keep 2 out those 3 #1 players as upperclassmen. Also, he had a top 5 overall rated player as an upperclassman as well. That 09 title team featured a bunch of OAD caliper players as upperclassmen. Roy is dangerous when retaining these top guys for many years. Imagine if K was able to keep guys like that now.

I mean you never know. I don’t remember for sure but I’m sure a lot people said the same thing about coby white that he wouldn’t be a one and done. I have a feeling Roy’s play style is going to really benefit Love like it did with white. Not saying he’ll be as good but sadly i think he’s gonna surprise some people.

That works for me. Looking unlikely we land him so whatever it takes to keep him away from UNC is cool.
Yeah I know our coaches visited him a couple weeks ago but i really haven’t heard anything else. Hopefully he just stays out west.

Agreed. Love has one more year of HS, then a year of college before deciding. Seems pretty early to say he "definitely" won't be OAD, given he's a 5-star.

I got to give the huckleberry his due. hof coach roy williams has a dadgum good recruiting class coming in 2020 but so does the G.O.A.T. and he's not through yet. It looks like it might comecdown to coaching and I'll ride in Coach K's wagon all day. OFC

Yep. It's weird because Williams just went on his official visit to UNC this past weekend... and this week there have been 3 new crystal ball picks for Z.Williams. 2 for USC and 1 for Stanford. To go 0 for 3 on CB picks right after an OV should not be encouraging. Also, Earl Timberlake, rated #26 by rivals, canceled his upcoming official with UNC. So, I like that. UNC is going to have a monster class. It's going to be interesting to see how Roy works these guys in, especially Sharpe and Kessler. Roy is likely to still have Brooks and Bacot on the team in 2021, so it might be very hard for either freshmen big to crack the starting lineup.

Would be kind of crazy to see if USC lands Ziaire Williams. That would be two top 5 recruits for them. Don't think they've had a top 10 kid since OJ Mayo.

Has Ziaire taken a visit to Duke? And if he hasn’t does anyone know if he plans on it?

I wonder if will is baby sitting hof coach roy williams grandkids. He has stated that he would have no problem with any of his current or former players baby sitting his grandkids. Can one imagine will and pj teaming up and taking care of those kids. :D OFC

Haha, that would be a reality TV Show waiting to happen. It could be called "The Real Housewives of Chapel Hill"
