He had 2!

  1. I really hope Caleb breaks it. Love seeing records broken.
  2. I kinda feel bad for Eddie at this point. Hard to separate his playing legacy from head coaching tenure. Sometimes "returning home" doesn't go as planned.
1. Yes
2. No. I can’t separate the two. I can accept the failure more than the way he handled it.

Go Caleb! He represents the Rutgers much better.

What is the difference in games played between EJ and Caleb? While EJ was a starter all four years, I would think Caleb has played many more games?

Thank you! So he's only one away from tying and two from breaking. Awesome. I actually can separate Eddie's playing career from his coaching but that's just me.

Steals weren’t really tracked as a stat in Eddie’s first couple of years, so I think his actually total is much higher than what is reported. He was averaging over 3 steals a game in his last two years.

Shot clock favors CM too, more possessions equals more opportunities for steals.

Rutgers played at a really fast pace back then. I'm sure the possessions where similar to now.

Maybe even more possessions back then as they averaged over 100 pts per game

Jordan was a very good point guard when Rutgers went undefeated in 1976.He could make shots off the dribble and also was a excellent defender in the full court press.

I think an average of over 100 pts per game may be a little high... If the Sports Reference website is correct, during Eddie Jordan's 4 years here his teams averaged 78.8, 86.0, 93.3, and 83.2 points per game respectively.

So this isn't like the player from Detroit who needs 3 points to break Pistol Pete's record (set in 3 years) vs the 5 that the other player recorded.

Eddie did not play 18-20 Big Ten games every year. The competition was much easier.

Let's not revise history. Eddie is one of the greatest players in Rutgers history. He was the straw that stirred the drink on a Final Four team. Caleb has been a fine player for RU, but there's no comparison between their respective careers

No one was comparing EJ and Caleb as overall players. EJ is a legend and was a phenomenal player.

Caleb will be remembered as an all-time glue/effort guy who helped RU get to 4 straight tournaments (counting COVID) and one of the best defensive RU players ever. That's more than a "fine" player.

I remain a big EJ fan, but in terms of our 70’s and 80’s teams (and earlier) you really have to consider that today RU is playing a national level schedule against top competition vs a near Ivy League schedule in the past. We need to view all career records with this critical eye.

That aside you do have to insider, in the case of career steals that many of EJ’s steals in Froh/Soph years were not recorded as steals weren’t an official stat.

Thats still incredibly high considering there was no shot clock
