Finding all the guards minutes next year is gonna be tough. Looking more and more like kiss and Thiam are going to be the odd men out

mcconnell > mcclung due to his ability to play both point and shooting guard effectively. the versatility is a blessing for our team.

Don't worry......I was convinced before he even hit campus but still see people talking about recruiting rankings and McClung, Strickland etc.....the bottom line is our staff can identify players, they're not perfect but Caleb looked very comfortable at SG, SF and PG....

Hawk...I give you a ton of credit here. You were a Caleb fan for a long time. I remember you talking him up before the season started.

I'll admit I was wrong about him - looked like a deer in the headlights early on and I never thought he'd be more than a role player here. Don't mind being way wrong on that one, lol. Maybe balances out by being right about Myles, I guess...

It’s not gonna be this year, and it may not be next year, but after 27 or however many years it’s been, we are within 4 years of going to the NCAA tournament. There is no way Caleb, Paul, and Jacob up top, Montez and Ron in the middle, and Myles downlow do NOT make it together. No way.

It’s almost like people shouldn’t judge 18 year olds off a 15 minute sample size. Many people here gave up on Eugene very early and even last year thought he was just a nice bench piece.

Do you start Caleb to let Geo react off the bench to the speed of game?
Don’t think that’s the case, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see some 5 minute stretches using this small lineup and going on runs. There’s some sacrifice on defense but Eugene can mix it up and the additional passing punch you get on offense from playing 5 out is great.

a wonderful game today and I have been a critic at him at times. His rapid development is a godsend for the program. Its all about getting the freshmen as consistent as possible and as comfortable as possible. Pike is doing such a great job with all of them and being careful not to ask too much from them and to pull it back when they are struggling a bit.

its too bad he didnt get more touches in overtime. I felt that we needed to ride that

Yeah, I remember those days of people bashing Caleb after a few games early in the year. One of them is now his biggest fan on the board now.

Well, how about not judging a true freshmen playing his first few college games.

The narrative was not that he was struggling..it was he was not a P5 player.

I'm not so sure that was the conclusion. I remember folks making the distinction that they weren't making decisions about his (and Mathis' long term value).

Mathis, Harper, and Johnson all have higher ORtgs in Big Ten play than they do overall. (Caleb's is slightly lower) That's a great sign of development.

Far out but I think he starts over mulcahy or gets more minutes

He might start but it won’t be over Mulcahy. I love McConnell’s game but next year we will see what this team looks like with a real point guard.

He played very well today. He is clearly earning a larger role. Remains to be seen at who's expense.

Caleb is amazing and had a great game. Those calling for him to start over Geo at this point... holy $h*t... what a limited myopic view based on one game

this.....Caleb is not in the scouting report yet...he came in avg 4 pts a game. He had a couple games in double digits recently but has been up and down as far as scoring. Alot of the times he is wide open and to his credit...major credit he has a nose for where to be on the floor and his ability to rebound is incredible. Going forward with the cat out of the bag, I would expect other coaches are going to start to notice Caleb now just as they did with Montez and he had to readjust. Geo is one of the focal points and has to expend alot of energy matched up against quick guards who are pressuring him. Caleb is playing with basically no pressure on him to produce. Sky is the limit but lets be careful. I trust Pike is going to be able to manage minutes going forward as expectations change on who should contribute what

This is where I think Caleb’s vision and passing ability will emerge more. If teams rotate to help cover him he’ll find the open man. By comparison Geo has some trouble with that when he’s pressured.

Caleb, besides being a plus rebounder at his position, is also a good defender with long arms and quick hands who creates steals and fast breaks.

No mention about his defense? I think that is where Caleb helps a lot. He has very quick hands and moves his feet well. I still say once he gets stronger and gets his confidence high he will be a very good piece for us. Best passer on the team.

Big-time performance from him. I really like his overall game. His shooting can be a real shot in the arm for the offense.

I cant believe how much Caleb has improved since the beginning of the season He looked a little Soufish to start but is looking more and more like a future starter.

This is the very reason why people should not give up on Doucoure.

The answer here is for Harper to grow those two inches we were talking about back in October, so that he can become a true stretch 4. That would allow McConnell to play at the 3.
