Calipari struggles against good point guards

It seems that most of our upsets and losses happen when point guards take it to us. Maybe it is the switching screens or the dependance on shot blocking. I remember Downey, Uconn twice and others. I just know when a team has an aggresive confident PG that we are in trouble.

He needs to work on his stance.

I could be wrong, but, tonight, I think our point guards had 12 assists and zero turnovers. Tonight had nothing to do with guards. Tonight was all about the big men.

I agree 100%. Big men have to make there chip shots. They don't do it. The Harrisons won this game for us.

i can't believe i am going to say this but that rodger dude is not totally wrong about that . Our PGS balled out . Our bigs missed alot of rebs . and play with heart in regulation . WCS was a man child in ot though.

The OP means defense from our guards against the quicker guards of Ole Miss. They flat had there way. Just unconscious... Sometimes our D wasn't bad the shot just went in.

I am more concerned about our bigs on offense. I know Cal wants to expand games but Willie was a disaster every time he touched the ball in half court...Yes I know about the hustle plays in OT but 5 turnovers missed free throws and inability to finish. Dakari I thought before the season would be unstoppable in the post. He can't get the ball to the rim. Towns struggles making the short right hand jump hook and Lyles was affected by rough play.

Hopefully it was just a off game from our bigs. We got out scored in the paint tonight by ole miss

I guess I don't get the point. They are called great point guards because everyone struggles. Isn't that the definition?

Most teams struggle against really good point guards. It's an important position.

Downey hung 2300 points in his career.

Kemba Walker ran through not only us, but everyone else.

Napier ran through not only us but...everyone else.

So yeah, I agree. Cal struggles against talented pgs. Just like everybody else does.

You're both right. Our teams have been beaten in big games by outstanding point guard play, but tonight, it was more about our big men. Willie (other than overtime), Dakari, Towns and Lyles just didn't play well. Lee didn't even play.

Cal not wanting to play zone contributes to small, quick veteran guards giving us trouble.

The thing about tonight is that Ole Miss had three guards that really stepped up. After Moody started getting cramps, the other guard started busting some tough threes. It's hard to guard really quick players, but when they get hot from three it almost makes it impossible. Ullis should give us a better option in guarding someone like Napier or Downy if he gets some help deep.

Cal has struggled with several unlikely SEC West teams in Rupp. Ole Miss tonight. Arkansas last year. TAMU.

Calipari continually tries to defend the opposing guards from the bench area. He needs to get closer and guard by moving his feet. We all have to admit though-that he NEVERS fouls a jump shooter. Just having some fun after a nice win-lol-Catzman

Let's face it, OLE MISS was hitting falling down shots for 3 while being guarded, getting every call when driving and pulling up ....there were times on the replay there was NO contact but yet a foul. If a team can blister the 3 like that, get foul calls that aren't there and hit every FT - we will concede that they played us to within 3points.

You don't put Ulis on Moody, a guy with a 46 inch vertical leap.
He said his bad on that.
You must put WCS out there on that guy. Like last night.
It gives him cramps he tries to jump so high, to get a shot over Willie.

He never does bc it doesn't benefit the kids. Yeah we might get a win, but he wants them to play whole games in man bc you don't play zone at the next level.
