In this day and age it doesn't make sense to sign any highly rated freshmen unless you play them a lot. If you don't they are one and done and you just got a player ready for another program. Might as well live by the portal and not use it as just an extension of your roster. Everybody must be considered a 1 year player and you hope for the best.

But, you also have to fill those spots with BETTER players. Lets see how that ends up before we act like her and Deal leaving are. okay.
Or that you say the sky is falling and MW is backing out of her commitment.

Let the process play out. We live in a different world that 5-10 year ago. Even still Iowa was the program where everyone stayed until this year.

Based on her lack of playing time, I'm guessing she was another below average shooter, but I really liked her hustle and defense. I was looking forward to the experts telling me she was a "defensive specialist" Carrying the torch for the Gabbie M or Kylie F type player......

I noticed Callie and Jaida goofing off at the end of the bench - giggling/laughing etc...I'm all for having fun, but it seemed a little much......I always wondered if that relationship hurt her playing time. Maybe not directly, but the sum of the actions - maybe she wasn't taken seriously due to the goofing around....

Iowa has lost some xfer outs in the past several years. Guyton last year for a recent one. Who, as near as I can tell, did not improve her playing time with the Illini this year.

So not everyone stayed.

Unfortunately, I think you are right. All this noise about getting 5 stars, etc, etc...skip it. Just buy the better sophomores.

Not many were sad to see Guyton go though. Her Dad was a pain in the *** on social media and you sort of knew mid season she was going to leave.

Point guard I mean. Iowa only has one true PG. Stemlow is more of a shooting guard.
Ahh.. Stremlow was the backup point guard during CCW's absence and filled in admirably. Iowa definitely needs more guards from the portal however. I'm thinking/hoping they can do much better than the players that they've lost which were pretty underwhelming.

True, but I am only saying that there have been some xfer outs, even that one from just last year. There have been a few others too, the names escape me, but the theme was "more playing time elsewhere".

I never really viewed her as "goofing" around. I thought she was an incredibly positive bench player that always seemed to be encouraging others. I guess she could have just pouted and stayed sitting whenever anything good happened?

Looks like Iowa started having meetings, and the coaches have been honest about bringing in players. It's not really a surprise. This is the portal era.

I'm pretty sure this is what happens with Iowa and all teams right after the season ends. Everyone finds out where they stand going into the next season and what's expected of them.

I did not see that one coming.
From what I saw on the court, Levin has more athleticism and upside than Deal. But Deal got the playing time because she came in as a 5-star with all the hoopla. She flamed out and is moving on. I have no idea, of course, of what the coaching staff told Callie, but I would have told her she would be given every opportunity to earn the guard spot opposite Chit-Chat.

Anyway, don't mind Deal leaving at all, but sorry to see Levin leave. Hope Callie finds the right program for her.

Not a huge loss. Decent player, but not someone you want playing decent minutes if you plan to be a top 10-15 team.
That's exactly how I would describe the loss of Deal. Levin, OTOH, is far more athletic and, IMHO, has a very high ceiling. Of course, I'm simply judging by what I see on the court, not by somebody's star service. I've been evaluating athletes for a while, and I trust my eyes.

Geez. Maybe just transplant Iowa States team over here and call it a day.
Uh, no thanks.
Sure….but we need to sell the fact we’ve been a top 10 program over last 4-5 years & play before sell-out crowds to get some decent transfers.

Not many other places can say that….& pretty much all are loaded with high-level talent they’d be sitting behind.
And as you may know, Nielsen recently named the Iowa Hawkeyes THE most popular women's basketball team in the entire country, based on TV viewership and social media. Literally no one else in the country can match the Iowa program. (South Carolina was #2, BTW.)

And then Iowa has been to a pair of national title games in the last four years and, two years ago, graduated the greatest women's basketball player in history. If the coaching staff can't make those facts work . . .

I think the horrible beat down in the B1G final and the pitiful two tourney games this season might give concern that Iowa is trending down and with an unproven HC.
The Sweet 32 is a rather low ceiling.

Perhaps there are established HCs with ties to Iowa available?
Did you notice that Wisconsin's men's team, the only squad to beat Michigan in conference play and that also beat Purdue and Illinois, lost in the first round of the NCAA tourney to something called High Point. Do you think that loss is going to cause players to ignore Wisconsin?

Hope that is the reason, not dissatisfaction with the program otherwise

Meetings are happening, yes Easier to talk of bringing them in than being successful doing it. Is Levin not motivated and capable of developing? Maybe. Jan is partly in this situation because she whiffed on high school recruits with only one coming. As of now, she has a roster of 8. All indications are that that figure will drop. Iowa is not a "destination" school. Chances of her getting productive upgrades that deep are poor. She will need about 6-7 minimum. Good luck. Might just find we are swapping player versus developing them. Deal was recruited heavily. Hard to understand we may not have had a plan for her an her parents on playing time and style.

That coaching staff has built up their credibility over a very long time.
Certainly more than the new staff at certain other schools in sports other than MBB.

No offense, but the days of playing the local girl are done. This is now a business and as a business, there is a bottom line. Why are we recruiting people from Solon, Iowa? That should answer that question first and foremost. Caitlin was a one of a kind. Most of the girls playing basketball in Iowa are not competitive at the D1 level, period. It was a wasted scholarship and if they will continue to repeat that mistake, well the joke's on the UI women's basketball team.

The story was that Levin's dad lobbied Bluder hard for an offer.
I think the commitment might actually have happened very early in her sophomore year.
That was before NIL and LB probably thought she could roster another JadaG type player.
Now, where EVERYONE is getting paid, not so much.

I can see that. They both lived in Solon. Makes sense.

Or the player had decided to leave before any post-season meetings took place, which is the case with Levin.

Teams are having multiple transfers out. Having the number Iowa has had in the last 6 years is ridiculously low.
