I’m 52…former athlete and ex military. In my prime, was I was strong and fast. No more!!

I think I could still run a sub 7 second 40…throw a baseball 75 mph and bench 150 with no training

How do you think you could do? Age 40+ responses only. No gym rats!

Never had a great arm in baseball so 75 mph is a no-go. Play tennis, singles, a couple of times a week so sub-7 sec 40 might be doable. Have lifted for 40 years, although it's mainly been toning the last 20+ but 150 lbs would definitely be doable. I'm 59, BTW. 5-9" and hover around 187 lbs.

What's wrong with gym rats?

I was TERRIBLE at baseball. I just never had an eye for the ball, no one in my family did. We sucked at all facets of the game.

At the same time my dad is 70 and he puts up 135 on the bench. He Hack Squats with 45s. And he somehow still does reps on the Ab-wheel rollout.

35 years old.. leg press in the 500s. Deadlift in the 300s.. Squat 255 (but I had a knee injury recently and had a scale back), 8 pull ups, and I'll be trying for 100s on the DB chest press come Monday (I'm stopping most barbell upper body exercises). None of these are 1RM btw, I don't have a spotter to try for that.

My cardio is awful tho haha, I hate all forms of it. But my Suana game is on point.

I’m in my 40s. Had 6-7 college scholarships to play football but chose to use an academic ride instead. I was strong and smart, but not fast.

I haven’t worked out regularly in over 10 yrs…which is terrible. I’m overweight and out of shape. Several yrs ago I did throw a baseball at an arcade down in Gatlinburg. It said 76 mph….but since I wasn’t warmed up, it didn’t feel good…ouch. I recently went on a 10 mile day hike through the Kentucky mountains with a 20 pd backpack and did it fairly easily. I also routinely join scrimmages with my adolescent daughter’s soccer team as their coach. I get winded at times but I don’t have to stop. I have been known on occasion to jog the mile loop around our neighborhood. Not enough for fitness but just enough to know that I still can. I don’t have to stop but it’s a slow pace…..probably around 10-12 min.

Just north of 50 and I’ve worked out at least 6 days a week for the last three decades. No better investment of your time than taking care of yourself. You can’t fight getting old, but you can fight feeling old.

Mid 50’s haven’t worked out since leaving college and don’t miss it one damn bit. D1 baseball 1B 6’4” 215 then and all conference junior and senior years now 6’4” 255. Drink beers almost every night and tequila on special occasions like tailgating things like that.
Don’t eat a lot but when I do I go all in and everything I can typically 1 big meal a day.
Still dip snuff daily, overall I feel great but it takes me awhile to get my feet moving walking to the bathroom at 7 am.
Wait, I do get some exercise swimming with my wife and when my daughters come home from college, they will occasionally have a beer with me but it’s usually those nasty *** seltzer things

I can press #150 with one arm, get it together bubba. Can’t throw a baseball 75 though prob due to crazy torn labrum.

At 58, my strength-training exploits — though quite legendary, mind you — pale in comparison to a seemingly magical ability to crush slowly-pitched softballs in the 50/55+ divisions of Men’s Slowly-Pitched Softball Tournaments held throughout the southeastern United States. This sustained excellence (.718/.917/1.885 the past five years) — as well as my old-school stirrup-enhanced sartorial splendor — has elevated me to near-mythic status among my would-be peers.

Internal team turmoil sabotaged our season earlier this year. As such I am currently a free-agent. I’m drama-free, reliable for all Friday pool games, and comfortable batting anywhere from lead-off to clean-up to tenth. Feel free to text me at 270.559.9064 if you’re interested in my slowly-pitched softball services.

65 years old and workout 6 days a week. Strength training with the total gym Mon-Wed-Friday. Martial Arts workout 3 days a week, Tues-Thurs-Sat. Can still do the splits (American not Chinese) and kick above my head. Play softball in the downtown leagues but am looking for a senior's league in OKC next year. Still run the bases at a pretty good pace. A bit overweight at 5'9" and 214lbs.

One exception to the workout routine. If the day is good and the temp is right, I go fishing twice a week which is a good enough workout since I walk and wade around/through the water ways I fish. Believe me, my legs get a good workout especially with some of the grassy and muddy areas I wade in. Got stuck in the mud at one pond yesterday several times with one time having my foot come out of the boot losing my balance and falling over into the water.

Probably 20 years ago or so and I don’t think that worked. It hurts most every day but I’ll take that over surgery and no lifting for way too long.

What I was meaning was that if you were a throwing athlete when younger, the labral tear likely happened a long time ago. I’ve seen estimates from 60-80% of professional baseball pitchers have asymptomatic torn labrums. The thought was that their body tore it on purpose when younger as an adaptation to provide greater velocity with throwing.

if this is a possibility, then your pain is very possibly able to be rehabbed…..or at least was. Being 20 yrs old, it lowers the likelihood.

59 yrs old... 5'9" and 168 lbs. I don't see fitness/active lifestyle as "optional".

Play bball 3x per week, lift at Planet Fitness 3x per week (nothing very heavy), tennis 1x and golf 1x per week.

Winter sucks here in NKy as it kills my golf and tennis.

Occasionally ride 30 miles on a bike, probably the most athletic thing I can do

I still like beer, but not the capacity I had when I was in my 30s and 40s, which is a good thing.

40-45 wasn’t bad. 45-50 has been brutal. Literally fell off a cliff. Also quit playing basketball which probably has a ton to do with it tbh.
Probably, my dad played pick up ball into his early 60s and was always in good shape. He is 71 now and has probably aged 20 years and picked up a decent amount of weight since he stopped.

Even being in may late 30s when they shut the gyms down for a few months for covid it was depressing how quickly I lost muscle/gained fat thankfully I was able to get back where I was but it took a while, cant imagine what it would have been like if I were a little older.

Having 3 kids under the age of five has been a f*cking nightmare. I’ve basically stopped eating in order to not to get too fat and am hopeful when all 3 are in school I’ll have more time to go to the gym. But right now I barely have time to take a **** with the door closed.

45, now. 6’2 215 lbs. and I barely eat like I used to, and the weight stays on me. Hit a ball 410 yards at 4000 feet last week in NC. Typical good drive for me is 320-330. Club head speed is 118, but if I reach back I can touch 125 mph. Threw 80 mph in HS. Can only throw 65 mph now.

Max bench 20 years ago was 285. Guessing I could put up 225 a couple reps now. Squated 315 at 18 YRs no problem. Can still do 30 pushups in a row. Used to be easier.

Looking back I wish I had taken better care of myself. More stretching and meditation and less Irish car Bombs at 2am
