That’s what he’s been doing. He’s not hurting us right now. If he keeps playing hard on defense and hit the occasional shot then that’s perfect. Teams respect him because they know he can get hot. It gives the others more space. We can compensate for him not scoring a lot. We find ways to score. His defense and rebounding are most important.
Did you see the UNC game? The one where K barely played him in the second half?

Yes I did. He got in early foul trouble and Goldwire was holding Cam Johnson down. Cam played the last 13 minutes though. His presence on the court offensively and his defense is what we need. He’s going to make mistakes offensively but he always play hard defensively.

This is from Andre Dawkins on twitter, during the ACC championship on Cam's jumper:

"Seems like Cam needs to shoot more up than out. Shot is pretty when he’s got a nice arc on it. Getting a lot of long shots the last few games"

Then after the big one he hit at the end of the game:

"Cam had to shoot that last one a little higher cuz it was contested"

He's averaging 14 a game. I think that's enough if they are an efficient 14.
14 "efficient" points, good defense and low turnovers is plenty IMO.

Against teams that are currently ranked, we are giving up an average of 74 per game. Our 5 starters are averaging something like 73 per game. 10 points from our bench gives us a double digit win.
Only 3 times all year have we allowed above 79 in regulation.

So I don't think we need Cam averaging a lot more points than what he is averaging. Just be a little more efficient, cut out the charges, and cut down on turnovers. If he does that, I think we are golden
This exactly. I think the eye test on Cam is a bit deceiving. Many act like he's simply not good - but he's averaging 14 points a game as a freshman in the ACC. His defense often warrants keeping him in the game. But if his shot isn't falling it's usually paired with dumb offensive plays such as just running defenders over to get to the basket or losing his handle and turning the ball over.

He's not as terrible as some make him out to be. But he is terribly inconsistent. And when he's struggling on offense, man is he struggling.

Remember that time he hit a game winning three at the buzzer to cap the best comeback in recent history at UL?

Yeah.

That was pretty awesome.

I think you are confusing the FSU and UL games. Against UL he hit a dagger three after a between-the-legs pass from RJ, but I believe there was over a minute left and a couple possessions. Against FSU was when he hit the three at (right before) the buzzer. Beautiful play drawn up by K and absolutely perfect inbounds pass from Tre.

Was rewatching the UNC game and there is a beautiful play in the second half where Cam comes off a curl and gets the ball inside the free throw line and goes right into Maye and gets the bucket and one..more plays to hit Cam on the move where he can attack or shoot without him having to create with the dribble would help him I think..it will give him better looks and easier shots than when he tries to dribble into one himself..

Yea, Cam just needs to relax and play within himself. He doesn't need to try and go to the rack contested. And he needs to be setup a little better at times from his teammates to be successful.

And it was right when he checked back in. That's what I loved about the play call. Cam was struggling, had three fouls and what does Duke/K do? They instantly call a play for him. Cam has been good if they're getting him the ball while moving. Need more of that.

We've seen it in past years, specifically in 2016 with Luke, where if a guy is not making shots, then they're almost useless out there. That's not the case with Cam. He's struggled offensively, but he's never let it hamper his effort or effectiveness on defense.
