In my long lifetime as a Hawkeye die-hard the best Hawkeye teams in order:

1. 1970 undefeated BIG team with
JJ,Freddy,Calabria,stick,Jensen,mcgilmer

2. 1980 Ronnie & co.

3. 1987 Roy,Eddie BJ and crew.

4. 2026 ...and not done yet.

I remember dick Jensen, the 6'8" center on that 1970 team. Not a scorer, did the dirty work on boards and defense.
Cam is the Jensen on this team. Guy just works his arse off and never goes out of his lane.
That's discipline.

This team has a chance now of being like that 1970 team..one that a 14 yr old kid will remember, the names, of this team in 2082,some 56 yrs later.

Thank you Hawkeyes!

I remember that team well, I was also a 1956 bambino. Man did they play as a team. A great team that came up a bit short.

Jensen was a far different player than Cam, but you're right that their roles on their team were similar. Jensen rotated with Ben McGilmer on that 1970 team. The other four players, Chad Calabria, Fred Brown, John Johnson, and Glen the Stick Vidnovic were all like Stirtz in that they played the whole game every game. That's why those Hawkeyes were known as "The Six Pack." Nobody else played except at the end of blowouts. And, of course, that 1970 team--14-0 in the BIG--averaged over 100 points a game in conference play. And there was no three-point shot and no shot clock.

My 6th grade granddaughter was playing in a 3 on 3 tournament in Madrid. Between games I was looking at Madrid scoring record. Came across Dick Jensens name.

I agree with your list.

That ‘69-70 team was the first time I paid attention to basketball. Was lucky enough to see a couple of games at the Fieldhouse. Stick Vidnovik is still my all time favorite Hawkeye.

Not sure if they could have beaten UCLA, but would have liked to see them face off for the championship.

As good as the top 2 in the list were, I still maintain the ‘87 team had the best chance at winning it all.

If I remember right Jensen was from Madrid, just 500 kilometers from Folgueiras' home town...;)
