Would Collins recruit the best player from Tavaras Hardy's Loyola, MD squad?
Even if that player's brother played one season for NU?

I suspect Collins is desperate, but... I'm not sure Fitz would do that.

He has already offered a schollie so yes

It’s also a ridiculous shot at CC to insinuate he shouldn’t pursue Spencer due to him having played for Hardy at Loyola. Fitz would 100% pursue a kid in a similar situation. Just another example of PWB going out of his way to disparage CC.

You whine a lot.
When somebody writes the words "I'm not sure" what does that mean to you?

I know I would rather not pilfer players from a fellow NU grad, but I'm not the coach and Collins isn't really an NU guy. Fitz, being an NU guy, would probably hesitate.

Once a guy is in the portal he’s gone, so I don’t see that as poaching. It’s the same to me as a recruit who decommits from a school. Once he does that he’s fair game.

By entering the transfer portal, a player is announcing his or her intention to leave. So unless something underhanded happened before the player entered the portal, what’s the problem? I certainly wouldn’t hold it against Tavaras if Ryan Young ends up transferring to Loyola MD. Heck, Tavaras himself left for a better opportunity at Georgetown shortly after Collins had retained him initially. As for Fitz: it might not be exactly the same thing, but he just brought in a transfer linebacker from Pitt – where former longtime assistant Randy Bates is the DC.

And saying Collins “isn’t really an NU guy” when he’s been the head coach for almost a decade and led the program to its first NCAA tournament ever is ridiculous. Is being an alum a requirement to be a real “NU guy”?

I’ve lurked on here for a long time, and you’ve made it quite clear that you want Collins fired – you’re in the overwhelming majority! Personally, I would’ve been fine with moving on from him a year ago. But every single thing that Collins doesn’t have to reinforce whatever failings you think he has as a coach or person. Like it or not, he’s back for another year. The roster needs more talent. I’m glad Collins is pursuing some! He has 4 scholarships to play with, leaving plenty of flexibility to get a couple of bigs, too.

When you say “I’m not sure”; it’s a convenient way to say something negative, but not be held accountable.

Here’s an example…”I’m not sure if you’re a jerk in real real life or just on this message board.”

Another level 2 or 3 player. Where’s the real players? This is the BigTen not the Ivy League!

I’m sure there have been some but I don’t remember our last Power 5 transfer. Most of our guys come from mid-majors. Don’t know why a Power 5 player would waste his time with this sinking ship.

All I know, is if he has the attitude of his brother sign him up. Dude was a Lacrosse player and ended up our best player for the one year he suited up for us.

If you can score 19 points a game, in any league, you are worth a look. It does not matter the league. You can't average 19 if you do not have some game.

Much fanfare about PBJ, 12 ppg at Milwaukee. And the Horizon League is more of a low major than a mid major. You score, you draw the other's team's best effort, best defender, best help.

Jamison Battle was one of the best players in the B1G last year. Came from George Washington where he averaged 17.3.

Well thats why I wrote "Would Collins recruit the best player from Tavaras Hardy's Loyola, MD squad?"

I meant "talk to him before he announces a transfer."

My question was Would Collins do that, thru backchannels or his brother or whatever.

I agree that if the kid announces he wants to transfer without talking to NU beforehand, then he is fair game, because he is leaving Loyola MD.

Of course this question elicited more of the same personal attacks from the same two bozos.

You can't ask questions like that about a saint who has never done anything wrong in his life.

Actually, thats not the same.
I asked a question with two possible answers - He acted properly or he did not (talking to Cam before he announced a transfer).

You asked a question with two outcomes, both of which were insults.

I suppose you are not intelligent enough to understand that.

Why do you think that is a reference to Collins. We have such pillars of morality like Bruce Pearl, John Calipari and Penny Hardaway. I suspect they are the dirtiest of the bunch

I watched a few Loyola MD games this year. Cam has good ball skills and is taller and shoots from 3 better than Pat, but is not as quick and does not jump as well as his brother.

Pat Spencer was an athletic freak. I remember his vertical leap was discussed here but don't remember the specifics, but it was elite. Brother Cam doesn't show quite that level of athleticism, but appears to be a real good outside shooter and decent finisher around the rim based on his highlights.

Loved Pat’s efforts, but he wasn’t particularly fast on the court. I might go so far as to say he was slower for a guard than even the NU standard, so saying Cam is slower kinda scares me.

Agreed. Great hops but slightly below average quickness. I was impressed, though, at how he adjusted as the season progressed. He really struggled against quick players in the first few games.

He was a good basketball player for a guy who hadn't played organized ball in years. That's not what you're looking for in the B1G, though. At least not as a starter. I think he would have been pretty effective if he could have shot from 3-point range. Would have opened the court up for him.

He definitely had the killer instinct and drive to win, and he got noticeably better over the course of the year. Would have loved to have him with all of that and a few more years of eligibility.
