I live in Orlando. Actually about 10 minutes from Universal. UK Memphis is correct. You ain't hittin' Universal from the Gulf without a drive. The only other option is id Daytona/ Cocoa Beach area. Which will be about the same time of a drive like from the Gulf.

You can do Busch Gardens in Tampa, which is another theme park, and still hit the Gulf.

Forget the beach and just get a hotel room inside Universal Theme Park. My wife and I did that a few years back and had a blast.

Do the Studios first so you can relax after.

Clearwater is great for the double.....we did this with Disney a few years back.

The Sandpearl is the hotel recommendation if you stay in Clearwater Beeach.

Clearwater if you're insisting on Gulf side (100 miles).

I'd go with Cocoa Beach if you're willing to stay on Atlantic side (63 miles). Kids would probably enjoy Daytona more (same distance as Cocoa), but if they're getting a whole day at Universal then I think they'd be fine in Cocoa. .

Cocoa Beach is a dump. Stay in Melbourne or New Smyrna unless you NEED the Myrtle Beach like atmosphere.
