Can our secondary slow down ul's passing game

Wel the fact Devante Parker is not playing for them this year should be a big help. Additionally, though young, Westry is much better than Fred Tiller who started last year. Will depend on QB pressure (which has been terrible) and which QB plays for them.

UL is last in the ACC for sacks and hurries allowed. The potential is there.....

We need to play uber aggressive on defense and pray the offense gives us a rest.

Not without a pass rush and UK hasn't shown that all year.

Hatcher has given some energy to the rush. Plus Meant along with Elam has looked better up front. Forrest, Henderson, and Flannigan are filling the gaps better then ever.

With the problems we've had containing a running QB, I would be shocked if Jackson didn't start. I'm more worried about his ability to run and buy extra time for their passing game. We must make them 1 dimensional, so stopping the run first is key. Then we must keep Jackson in the pocket. Our DE's have got to set the edge. Our secondary is the least of my concerns even though it's our youngest unit on the defense.

It all goes back to alignment and assignment. Discipline will be key again this week. Can Stoops win a game that he is an underdog? I want this one BAD!!!

I feel this way too. Lost in the UNCC blowout was one disturbing stat....their running QB had 70 yds rushing. UK gives up that or more Sat and they lose.

Staples is a worry, caught 9 passes for over 190 yards and a TD, hope we don't always try to cover him man to man. The rest of the 7 to catch a pass caught 11 for 161 yards, so a pretty good passing game, but their running game was atrocious, Jackson the only one with positive yardage and only 7 tries for 19 yards, everyone else lost yardage with Bolin losing 18. Radcliff was the only RB to get the ball, seven carries for -1 yard, of course the QBs had more yards but the 57 yards lost on 7 sacks made Jackson's total come down quite a bit I would guess, he is very elusive.

And with no rushing attack they still scored 34 points. That is scary with no rushing attack, and probably enough to beat us. but I don't think they pass the ball against us that well. I am a cautious optimist about the game, it will be an exciting game I believe, and probably decided by a break or two.

Bob Petrino will find the matchup that is to his advantage and go to it until we stop it or they can no longer execute it successfully. IMO that will be Staples as option 1 and the QB option run as #2. Stoops has got to put our best man defender on Staples and stay home on QB runs. Petrino will pick a zone apart due to our lack of a pass rush. Cover Staples and contain the qb run, and we win this one by 10-14 points. Don't and we lose by 17-21.

Not a chance with 4 Dlineman running on a treadmill...Louisville will score early & often. We are horrible on the defensive front. As usual our novice football fans will blame the corners and safeties.

Thank God we have an expert on here like you to keep everyone in check. I agree UL will score at will if our D plays its typical style.

Tell us more, oh wise one. You are like a breath of fresh air to a starving fan base.

Wait, maybe I spoke too soon, what is that smell?

Smells a lot like BS to me.

A couple of positive (hopeful) points for UK in the matchup against our passing game:

UofL is not only last in the ACC in sacks allowed, we are last (128th out of 128) in the entire FBS in sacks allowed. UofL's offense will give UK every opportunity to get pressure on the QB on Saturday.

Staples has been outstanding for us lately, but he left the Pitt game in the middle of the fourth quarter with a hip injury. It's quite possible he will not play Saturday. After commenting on his Sunday TV show that he was hopeful to hear good news about Staples later that day, Petrino has not said anything about his status for Saturday.

I know this sounds like an excuse but losing Lewis hurt, and not having Hatcher at full strength all season hurt us too. Honestly, unless they change QBs during the game to change tempo, I'm thinking they will play well. Shouldn't be any surprised this game, we have film on both.

UofL has some good receivers and TEs but Staples looked like he was the best so if he doesn't play that is pretty significant. As others have said, UofL's line hasn't been great in pass protection. UK's pass rush hasn't been great either but I would expect UK to be able to put pressure on UofL's QBs. Hatcher will play a big role as will C.J. Johnson up the middle.
