Can this team salvage the season?

After two extremely disappointing showings, is it even remotely possible? At the start of the season I thought we had a decent chance to beat USC, Missou, and Vandy. Now I think we are the worst team in the SEC. South Carolina is pretty bad, too, and maybe, just maybe we can top them. But IF we were to win this Saturday (all things are possible), maybe, some life is generated and we become competitive and get to 5 wins. To call the season successful we have to get to 6, but that really looks doubtful.

Anything less than 6 is a disappointment. Especially in year 4. This season can't be salvaged.

It can happen. NMSU, USC, Vandy, Mizzou, Austin Peay, Miss St are all winnable. Will we? Probably not since it would require Stoops and company to quickly fix the things they haven't in four years.

We have the talent to win 6 and upset someone (Georgia or Louisville) but I'm afraid the organizational problems are too great at this point.

Technically its possible. A lot of people were down on Brooks in year 4 and he turned it around. But I'm not as hopeful Stoops can do it.
Agreed. The USC game is effectively a must-win for Stoops (I'm going out on limb assuming we will win this Sat). Anyway, even a win over USC doesn't guarantee a successful season - it just buys time until the next must win game against Vandy.

No!
For Stoops to say that "now" he's going to take a bigger role in the defense is staggering.
WTH was he doing the last 3 years?

"We got better today" Pleeeease...

Saturday is as bad as you'll see anybody get beat... On national TV to boot. Talking heads already amping up for 6 wins still. Ludicrous!

I don't think vandy is winnable either. They run the ball the whole game and play good D. Bad matchup for this team.

They won't blow them away but I can see a 17- 7 type win for Vandy

Sure we can, but I doubt if we will. I'm sure everyone hopes we can. I know I do, and I hope Coach Stoops stays here as long as he wants, which would mean he was doing a good job. Odds are against him, but we'll see.

Seriously, we have 10 games left. I have never seen a group of fans quit on a team so fast. No it's not the fan's fault but damn, we can still show up and cheer them on. And dont call me a sunshine pumper, whatever the hell that even is. The season starts over this week. Lets get a win under our belt, keep getting better and come out and beat South Carolina.

Why should we get behind a team that quits themselves?

The answer is definitely no.

No way. I'd say 3-9 is the best bet but hard to see a ceiling above 4-8 after the first two debacles.

Im ready for changes I highly doubt it that they can. They must rip off 5 or 6 in a row for me to even believe Stoops can even coach at all. Changes need to be made period. Either we end up winning 6 some how but that will be the huge excuse for Mitch to keep Stoops around. Then If he does somehow get to 6 my bet he will follow a 6 W season up with another 4-5 win season. Time to Put the Buyout up put Gran as interm, get a coaching search committee together and get a headstart on Finding a solid replacement. The talent is here time for a real coach to get it out of them. If he loses to NMST this coming weekend he is a must go.

They can but they are probably too fragile to pull it off . The issue is all mental and has all the signs of relying on too many youngsters . They came out fantastic again So Miss , you don't play that well unless you have talent , the second half or just before that they thought it was over and checked out . The only problem is they couldn't check back in because they more or less pouted about their situation , immaturity . Against UF they were in a funk still and unfortunately UF came ready because they had a scare that got their attention against Umass .

The team needs to grow up mentally , it's the missing piece . Maybe a win this week will get them on the right path . I think they had big ideas about success and the So Miss loss dealt a severe blow to that . The game was also hyped over the Dawson angle and they wanted it bad . It's a pivotal time for this team and the Stoops era , they are literally on the precipice of total collapse .
