Can UK become a recruiting powerhouse?

It doesn't matter how well you can recruit if your recruits leave after enrolling. It looks like UK has kept about 2/3 of its 2013 non-juco scholarhip recruits and about the same percentage of the 2014 recruits. I don't know how this relates to other SEC schools but I would think it is favorable. Does anyone have figures for other schools?

Specific numbers, no. But it is typical of "expectations" based on scholarships rules. You are allowed as many as 25/year. And most years, most teams take right around that number.

Over a 5 year window that is 125. However, you can never have more than 85 so there is an anticipated loss of 40 players (for all reasons) over any 5 year period. That is an 8/year average or about 1/3.

Again, the rest of the SEC didn't stop recruiting just because UK finally started. UK's closed the gap on a handful of teams but still has a way to go. I do feel however if UK can stop these long list of humiliating losing streaks and finally start winning games they may bump the ceiling up a couple of notches. A reminder however that UK's in the classic Catch-22 situation...have to have good players to win but have to win to get good players.

I made no mention of attrition or failure to show up after signing on purpose. Developing players after they arrive is also another topic I didn't address. That is after the fact when it comes to recruiting. I used Rivals ratings and rankings because you have to use some measure. I could just as easily used Scout, ESPN (ugh), 247 sports or Rank by Offers and would have come up with close to the same numbers. Also incoming transfers were not addressed. I was restricting the subject to the recruiting of HS and JUCO players.

By "powerhouse" I meant that to mean top 25 in the team rankings. A consistent top 10 program in the recruiting team rankings would be elite, at least in my mind.

I find it unfortunate that the UofL fans apparently thought I was comparing UK's recruiting to UofL's. That wasn't the intent or purpose of the thread. I used other teams in my examples and the paranoid out there took umbrage. That's not my problem. For all who made serious comments, I applaud your thoughts. For the snarky among you, it says more about you than it says about me.

If UK is to recruit good enough to be competitive in football OHIO has to be included in our recruiting base. It is shame Coaches in the past did not hire anyone who could successfuly recruit OHIO also Head Coaches should be required to recruit his past connections OC. AND DC should have connections also.. When a person decides to be a coach he should start developing connections with high schools and should continue to develop those connections as he moves up the coaching ranks. This group of Coaches is doing all those thing great and yes I think they can develop into a regular top 20 recruiting classes
