THAT IS ACCURATE. FOUNDING FATHERS FLED RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION AND WERE WARY OF RELIGION TAKING OVER GOVERNMENT IN AMERICA. WELL-FOUNDED FEAR, AS WE SEE TODAY. WHY SHOULD ONE PARTICULAR RELIGION BE THE LAW OF THE LAND. LET MORALITY BE THE DETERMINING FACTOR IN EVERYTHING IN OUR SOCIETY. YES, YOU CAN HAVE MORALITY WITHOUT IT BEING IMPOSED BY ONE RELIGION. I HAVE HAD ATHEIST FRIENDS WHO WERE MORE MORAL THAN MY FRIENDS WHO ATTENDED WORSHIP REGULARLY. ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL.

were settled by men who refused to compromise their religious convictions and fled Europe.
The colonies did not like British government raising taxes to pay for the war.
Whatever their beliefs, the Founders came from similar religious backgrounds. Most were Protestants. The largest number were raised in the three largest Christian traditions of colonial America.
The Declaration contains several references to God, the Constitution none at all. The reasons for this variation reveal a great deal about the founding principles of the United States.
