Ok you’ve lost it

No, you're just a sheep.

GL wasn't great, but it was better than Captain Marvel. CM didn't have a cohesive story and nothing was compelling about the main character.

The only reason I went to see Cap Marvel was because as a fan of the Marvel Universe, I wanted to see a connection to Avengers End Game, which I can't wait to see.

All I saw was a Mary Sue who can't do any wrong. The way it ended was ridiculous.
I love DC more than Marvel and I liked GL, but you're nuts.

Green Lantern was a better movie than this. If the GL movie had a connection to the next Avengers movie, people would have flocked to see it.

Your worst take..ever.

Even Ryan Reynolds admits that GL was pathetic. He apologized for the movie, and showed that he wants a do over.

He didn't have to apologize for Captain Marvel because he wasn't in it.

It's bad on the level of The Last Jedi and the new all female Ghostbusters.

You might actually have worse taste in movies than dchi.

Marvel could make a 9 part drama about Stan Lee's bowel movements and some of you zombies would think it deserves an Oscar.

Captain Marvel was a bowel movement.

Was a good movie. Kids loved it. Both my girls (that went) were totally all about it, plus it hyped the USAF which they liked.

Knowing the comics, I knew what the plot twist was originally and liked the way they re-worked it. Kids didn't see it coming.

Also liked they way they changed how she got her powers and who Mar-Vell was from the comics, as I wasn't sure at all how that was going to go.

Was the whole 'taking a plane into outer space' thing and the 'dial a color' suit and 'hack a payphone' stuff a little hard to believe? Yeah. But you are also watching a movie where Norse Gods are real aliens and lizard men can shapeshift down to the DNA and where a man can wear a suit of armor with more weapons than a fully loaded B-52 while still fitting in size 36 slacks and a guy can turn into a 8 foot tall 1400 pound green dude but change back without any stretch marks or that extra flabby skin under the arms, so I tend to cut the dumb **** a little slack.

Got to watch it last night.

I’m doubling down on the negative reactions having roots in Larson’s politics, and dudes struggling to deal with any ounce of female empowerment in a storyline.

If Captain Marvel is a Mary Sue, so is every overpowered character in Marvel and DC. Superman is a Mary Sue as well as Franklin Richards, Silver Surfer, Black Bolt and Deadpool (kills entire universe).

A girl is represented as potentially the most powerful being in the MCU. So. F’ing. What. Deal with it.

FYI, Superman would be a Gary Stu. The label is meant to be a criticism on the originality/quality of story-line taking them from no-body to a force of nature. It's basically a comment that you've read/seen the plot line a million times already and the writer lacked creativity.

NOTE: I haven't seen the movie and can't comment on the quality.

I never understood the term (i'm not a comic book guy) but always figured AC used it more in terms of the lady character having no character flaws, rather than being too powerful. Part of why I didn't like the stand alone Cap American movies as much as most. Avenger movies are saved though by Stark's constant making fun of him for it.

I give Cap Marvel a pass though as she doesn't even know who she is for half the movie. I'm guessing her character gets a bit deeper later.

Just saw the film tonight w/ the wife and kids...kids loved it, wife loved it, I liked it fine. Not sure Brie is the right actor for the role, a few scenes seemed flat but overall solid B for entertainment value.

Still far more cartoonish than any other Marvel film to date.

Final saw it last night. Had about as low expectations as possible, but I really enjoyed it. Solid B to B+. I’m as annoyed as anyone w SJ issues being forced into Hollywood, but I didn’t sense any of that in this movie. I personally found it more entertaining than Black Panther. I wish they would have delved into Ronan’s role more but understand not doing it. I wasn’t thrilled w Larson’s casting but thought she did really well. It’s definitely better than CA and Thor’s origin movies, IMO.

It was ok in my opinion. There have definitely been worse Marvel movies. I knew nothing of her character so everything was new to me. Didn't think it had the humor of the last Thor movie or Ant Man. To me that was about the only thing that was missing for me. I would have liked to have learned more about her powers to me all I know is she shoots a laser out of her hands and can fly. I'd put it on par with the first Thor movie.

In this thread I learned AC hates women.

Oh well.

Watch it with a 9 year old girl and lighten up Francis. Seriously. I thought it was fun.

Negative. I love Black Widow. I love Wonder Woman. There are many other female characters that I think are great.

Larson has the acting range of a wooden plank.

Could you tell us your opinion of Mark Hamill in 1977?

I’ll hang up and listen.

Ray is a Mary Sue. Sort of. If you think piloting sims and surviving on her own with little more than a stick and a flying popsicle aren’t decent prep for flying the Falcon and fighting injured Kylo Ren.

Captain Marvel is not. She spent her entire life prior to the Kree pushing her limits. She was an elite member of the military before she ever got her powers. She then spent six years training with the best warriors in the Kree Empire, learning to extensively use her passive powers (things other than flight and laser hands). Her using her full powers effectively is no more Mary Sue than CA using a hammer as a weapon in EG. She was already a badass. She just became a badass with new tools at the end.

I loved it. But then again I was a 13 year old kid when I saw it.

None of those guys in the original trilogy acted wooden. The prequel was a different story.

I like all of the new Star Wars stuff under the Disney banner (with the exception of TLJ) much more.

How about you?

I know you guys aren't asking me... But I've always thought Hamill's acting in Star Wars movies started out average at best and slowly improved with each movie. I thought his acting in the last Jedi was the best he has done even if I like the story less and less every time I think about it more.

I think Daisy Ridley is a good actress and doing well with the character even if the character's story makes little sense (IMO).

Haven't yet seen Captain Marvel or Endgame. Hope to rectify that shortly. But in the previews I was suspicious that there wasn't much depth in the portrayal (I admit I was tipped off to look for that so I'm biased).

Endgame is a heart-wrenching drama, especially if you're invested in the characters as most of us are that have been watching Marvel for years.

Finally saw Captain Marvel today with the 11yo son and the almost 8yo daughter. They both loved it and I thought it was plenty entertaining.

AC, Brie isn't getting nominated for any awards but I'm starting to think you are a hater. :)

I've talked with a lot of people that hated it.

I might have liked it more with a different actress. She is terribly unlikable.

I can see how she could be polarizing but I didn't really have an issue with her.

Scarlett Johansen does a much better job as Black Widow but come on - it's Scarlett Johansen.

I have not talked with anyone in person that disliked it.

I have to talk to white dudes on the internet for that.

I think it’s on par with CA1 and BP based on the first watch. You can be pretty bad and still hold the movie up bouncing dialogue off of Samuel L Jackson and a well cast kid, and that’s what they’ve got here.

Acting chops aside, my daughter thoroughly enjoyed seeing a female in the lead in a super hero movie. There are two of those now.

Pump the brakes on the white men bashing there spoiler spiller. I liked it and am white while my wife who is a female disliked it. No need to start bringing race into this argument. Good grief

AC is a bit of a Marvel hater and DC fan boy. (Mea Culpa...I'm the polar opposite, and don't think DC has made a good movie yet, although I would call WW decent).

With that said, I'm not a fan of Brie Larson as CM. She just doesn't have enough gravitas for the role, IMO. I enjoyed the CM movie a lot, but would say that it clearly falls outside the Top 5 (and probably outside the Top 10) MCU movies. I still find the de-aging of Fury and Coulson to be an incredible feat.

p.s. Haven't seen Shazam yet, but hear good things about it.
