Tino Malnati! When was the last time a walkon bench player was named a captain. Congrats to Tino.

continuing the tradition of a worthless title. At NU, we don’t call them seniors, we call them all captains.

Well, at least the lacrosse dude isn't a captain and he's a Senior......

As an aside, Anthony Gaines is a Junior. But never let a fact get in the way of a good rant.

And you know who's really miffed? Charlie Hall. He stuck it out for 4 years, was the funniest guy on the team, had rich and famous parents, and never sniffed captaincy. He was robbed.

Pro tip: when you order a pie from Tino's uncle, order it uncut (like gentiles). Otherwise the sauce leaks through and ruins it.

I was raised on Fox's Bob....can't eat Fox's unless it has sausage...best pizza ever

Actually ate there over the summer...it's either not quite the same...or I'm not quite the same.

Wow - blast from the past. Fox's where friends of the family and clients of my dad. I rode their South Side Irish Parade float on many occasions. And besides their pizza, I loved their burgers too. I haven't been to Fox's in decades - but feel inspired.

Let's pick a night with the Cats on the tube, grab a booth and finally put faces to handles!

Quite surprised that AJ Turner wasn't voted as a captain. If it was a team vote, that doesn't seem to show a lot of respect for a guy who seems to a core member and leader.

Here's Collins' interview. Glad to hear he thinks Boo Buie can be a double-digit scorer.

Player interviews:

Spencer is super confident, super competitive... very impressive. I think he makes a significant impact for this team.

AJ Turner is impressed with Spencer. He says Spencer has 40 to 42" vertical.

Last year, we picked up Ryan Taylor as a grad transfer, and he didn't live up to his high expectations. He seemed tentative and never got his shooting stroke. I think Spencer could have a much bigger impact, because he has an aggressive mindset and a quiet confidence to go with this outstanding physical attributes. He also can take more of a leadership position as he is surrounded by a lot of younger guys, unlike last year when the team leaders were clearly Law and Pardon.

I think if we went into Fox's and asked if they'd put the northwestern game on the television, they'd say "what western?"

I'm impressed with AJ Turner.

What an impressive young man.

LOL - You know Rob Johnson was a local kid. His dad's office was/is just down the street (used to be one of my dad's business partners...). Also, a few wrestlers and a kid named Nash came out of the area.

I'm pretty sure the Fox's would know NU :)

I like everything we’ve been hearing about Spencer. I can’t wait to see him play this year. Especially after A.J. says the dude has a “40- to 42-inch vertical.” Damn!

In the scrimmage Spencer didn’t seem out if place. Seems like a scrappy kid that isn’t afraid to take a leadership role as far as directing and expecting hustle. He is not a pure shooter and I think those expecting him to be much of a scoring option will be disappointed. However, liked his toughness and this is something NU has lacked outside of DP.

Hoping he might be a sparkplug kind of guy like Sanjay Lumpkin was.

I think they auctioned all of the contents...all the gaudy lamps, statues, etc....and separately put the restaurant up for sale. There was an article about it somewhere...they had objects that went back to the Chicago World's Fair....some Arts & Crafts stuff worth signficant $.

The owners were going to keep the restaurant open until it sold which may already have happened. There's a second restaurant in the western suburbs.

Spot on. If you order it precut, it’s soggy by the time you get it home. Uncut, the crust remains firm with good chew. It makes a huge difference.

Spencer is a cool story.

He’s what I call a “ no doubter. “ He’ll play with confidence and have no fear of pulling the trigger. I wish Nance had more of that DNA. Jones too. I think Buie has it. In my experience it’s the no. 1 quality necessary for players to realize their full potential.

Will be interesting to see if Spencer can sustain that as the level of competition goes up and we go deep into a grueling season.

Your mention of Nance reminded me of what was, for me, a huge shot Friday night. Nance had the ball 7-10 feet out and a shorter defender on him...looked around and then took and nailed the mid range jump shot. He does that consistently inside the free throw line versus hanging outside the three, it changes the team for the better. He doesn't have to post up bigs and convert under the basket if he can be deadly from mid range.

If anything, I think Spencer will continue to get better as the season progresses. Lacrosse dudes are dudes, especially Tewaaraton Winners.
