Just spitballing here but I heard he wasn't really hurt for Purdue last year, he was benched for not listening to the coaches. Maybe that was a reason.

Riley said he received lots of votes for captain. Who knows? Not a big deal IMO.

List of true freshmen that will definitively play has been narrowed to 4: Lamar Jackson, Tre Bryant, Domann, Lightbourn. Others on "alert"
Riley said a number of other players will be kept on “redshirt alert” meaning they will continue to practice with the top units, and could play if needed. Those players are: offensive linemen Boe Wilson, Matt Farniok, John Raridon and cornerback Dicaprio Bootle,

— Freshman safety Tony Butler will redshirt.

— Freshman Quayshon Alexander will undergo shoulder surgery. Riley said they were aware of that coming into the fall

Benning mentioned something the other morning how Tommy may not be named a captain this season. He didn't really elaborate on it much but seemed to know something we don't.

Despite that, It's good to see it being back to all seniors. And apparently the team even got to vote for their captains this time!?! It feels like it's been over a decade but finally we got it right again. I saw that Fresno State named a redshirt freshman as a team captain this year. I'm sure that won't cause any resentment in the locker room amongst the guys who have been there for four or five years. ;)

I read a statement from Riley about Tommy not being named a captain. He made reference to the fact that neither Scott Frost or Tommie Frazier were named captains their senior year. That is something that impresses me with Riley. He has studied and knows Husker history. I seriously wonder if our prior 2 coaches would have known this fact. He is doing everything that he thinks is right to win. It may or may not happen here, but he is trying to do what he can to win here the way he thinks will work.

Well....I heard he said Runzas and Valentino's Pizza suck. I honestly don't know why they even let him into the stadium anymore.

Bryant and Lamar Jackson are, it appears, going to have very key roles. Bryant also seems to be the lead kick returner.

Thanks for posting. I think if you throw in the Iowa game and a couple other things, maybe audibles; I feel TA has at times got to thinking a bit big for who he is. IMO he may have been behind some of the so called " calls "; the coaches took some heat for..... I believe his dad and others will bring out the best in him this year. I don't get some of the sloppy interceptions in fall camp; way below what a college qb should see. TA is very talented and he will be bruising teams with his legs - and coaches will have him nail a few long balls when D's cheat up on the run game.

Hopefully TA didn't make it down to Kiln to hook up with Brett Favre this summer. I'm not sure any more tutoring in gunslinging would be good right now.
