I have a older Chrysler 300 Limited that I want to replace the Stereo with one that has Bluetooth capabilities. A local install company gave me a good price I felt for a Stereo System with install($250) but they said that since I have radio controls on the Steering wheel I will also need a cable and adapter for new system to make it run though Steering wheel controls and that would be and extra $125 to $175 based on type I needed. Does anyone who has done a car stereo install know why old connection to Steering Wheel controls can't be used? I got no problem getting the cable if need be but that seems like a lot of extra money just for a control cable.

Thanks

Hmm idk exactly with Chrysler but you can probably have the new tuner reflashed to Chrysler specs and avoid that new cable, but you'd have to get with Chrysler people/dealer for that info.

I changed out stereos in my old cars in the past and the wiring always was an issue. I always had to get an adapter because the wiring harness for the car didn't match the wiring for the radio. That was before steering wheel controls and Bluetooth so I can imagine it costing much more.

I did some research and online the cost for the adapter/harness and cable runs about $110 online so this local install co. not far off the price. After doing some reading you really need new wiring harness too get correct connection to Steering wheel controls.

As a pure audiophile, go vinyl or GTFO. Just take it easy over bumps.

Use Crutchfield and they will give you a set of instructions to do it on your own. They also will show you all the parts you need for your exact car.

Also recommend Crutchfield. I used them 6 years ago to get a bluetooth android compatible stereo. They make sure you have every harness/adapter you need and include detailed instructions and even some video links. Best service in the industry.
