I'm not the best to chime in on this since I've never really followed high school hoops, but I heard of their shortcomings as well, I was told they lost all 5 starters from last years successful team, plus top reserve. No real size at all. New coach, first year coaching varsity and put in a new system. Give them a couple years, they're lower levels are doing really well, they'll rebuild to being a "good" team.Is it really true that the Mt. Carmel Caravan varsity basketball team is 5-20? How could a school with all that athletic talent have that kind of record? They were pretty good last year, what happened? Injuries? Recruiting losses? Did they start running the option?
There are a lot of outstanding hockey players who attend MC but don't play for MC. They play full time for their AAA travel teams...common trend now at every schoolBasketball only take a couple of very talented players to turn a team around. What happened to hockey? They were always pretty good at that. Wrestling is still a winter sport and they are darn good at that.

It's a sad thing. When you watch a high school hockey game now it's almost like watching a B team game. Don't get me wrong there are talented players, and there are some talented players that split time between AAA and high school, but most don't. There is a MC student I know that is one of the top ranked players in the state but he plays full time for his travel team. It's comparable to kids playing full time travel baseball over there neighborhood youth leagues when they are 9 years old. It's sad. That's supposed to be the story at LA and the reason they do not field a CCL team.

I don't think you can compare high school kids playing travel hockey to some 9 year old kid playing travel baseball. By the time the kids reach the later years of high school sports, a ton of the crap has been weeded out, even in travel sports. What you said about the 9 year old may have been true 15 years ago or so, but there is a lot of crap in youth travel sports at younger ages with the explosion of the number of teams out there. It's a sad thing.
