Mt. Carmel will open the 2016 season at Soldier Field against Taft. It will be a replay of the 1960 City Championship Game that MC won 27 - 8. Taft's team included future Packer Jim Grabowski.

Day and time to be announced.

Yes, I was at the game. I was a sophmore.

Taft just needs to practice harder and get better coaching then they have a chance. Lol

Normally I would lol or like this post. However, taft is an open boundary school like Philips, so really just needs to out recruit.

^Not to the same degree as they were pre 2002 (when their Bball was a title contender under Frank Hood). The surrounding neighborhood wanted a more neighborhood school without drama. So long West Side talent.

If Taft had all the kids in their district it would be a good game. I should say what was their old district boundaries .

They also need to hire a coach with direct ties to the Welles Park league on the North side to funnel them kids while also dropping down to 4a or 5a. Convincing 3 kids from both Loyola and ND to transfer in would help. Especially if a couple of them are D1 athletes. Plus get the best player at lets say Lane, Whitney Young and Lincoln Park to transfer in. Do all that and we may have a game week one.

And Grabowski was not even the star. Senior Al Mcfarland and Shumacher were the starters. But too bad Butkis hurt his knee and was not able to play in the CPL champ. game. We all would have rather seen CVS vs Carmel for the title.

Not this one!

I rode the 87th street bus to get to Stony Island, and was teased, threatened, and you can guess what else by endless CVS guys as to what would happen WHEN (not if) our two schools played.

Thank you, Taft.

Al McFarlane wound up owning Splinters Sports bar in Palatine . He sponsored the Splinters softball team that was one of the best softball teams of the early nineties. I believe he is a 16 inch softball hall of famer as well as a former SunTimes player of the year and a great guy.
