The PSU site is claiming schools are turning us in for tampering. I’m not sure for who and why.

They’ve said it’s Nebraska and Cornell. I don’t even know who’d we be trying to take from them. DT outside of his first year seems to prioritize development. A lot of the wrestlers DT brought in his first year were already being talked to by John’s staff.

It just sort of seems way off base here. It doesn’t make any sense.

We are plainly better than Nebraska in every weight except maybe 174 and Hwt. We aint getting AJ back, lol. Cornell, I dont even think we will need anyone from them.

Feel free to shoot the messenger. Brantt is considered a super good source which is why I quoted him, I can't verify if it's true or not but thought it was interesting

For the record, it absolutely is funny if Iowa of all schools are turning schools in for tampering

100% agree, not only is it not illegal, there's nothing wrong with it. Flipping unsigned commits is literally the norm, not the exception in college sports, especially for a new coach like DT who signed with Ok State when every decent 2025 recruit was committed already.

That being marked as even some unethical thing from Day 1 was dumb

Yeah I got into an argument on Intermat with some guy who said that DT “stole” 2 of his 3 national champs as if he’s the only one to ever do that lol.

He could've and generally does take the high road on this stuff. But this is the second tournament in a row that we have somehow stolen the spotlight when his team breaks all kinds of records. It is high in probability it is in reference to us.

What he should've done was talk about his team. Taken that moment to cast good light on his team, individually his wrestlers.

The only difference from what Cael said versus what AJ Ferrari said is AJ named a name. Both equally unprofessional.

It is interesting considering who it came from...but I don't think it is true.

If it is possible, it's most likely a passing comment or somebody not employed by Oklahoma State.

That is true that verbal commitment in college sports doesn't mean anything and so Cornell and Nebraska have no real complaint. However, it must have been tough for Cornell watching Nationals and tough for Minnesota also.

I’m sure it was tough, but they would be delusional to think their former commits would perform anywhere close to the same level. It’s the DT effect?

You mean to tell me transfers don't just roll into happy valley out of the blue looking to join the wrestling team? Shocking🤣. I'm sure the majority of programs have somebody not on the payroll that reach out to potential targets.

My take on this is stricter than most I guess. When you say it is not tampering when you recruit after the wrestler has committed than you are playing with the word "commit". When you commit you take the athlete on his word that commitment means that it is a verbal agreement that he will wrestle/play for you. Otherwise why even bother having commitments if they mean nothing. In the majority of cases, I believe the athlete should honor his commitment UNLESS HE SIGNS WITH US. LOL. I do believe athletes should think long and hard before making a commitment and then stick to it.

Tampering is a legal definition. You can’t legally tamper with anyone in the NCAA until they have enrolled in the school. It use to be when they signed a NLI, but those are not legally binding now.

Whether you want to debate on the ethics of pursuing recruits after the verbally committed is a different issue all together.

Football players are still being recruited up until they enroll in class now. Recruits have flipped since the inception of College Athletics. Why would the other NCAA sport be any different?

yea because look at how great of a tournament Cornell had LOL, I’m sure Vega would be a national champion if he stayed there. And Landon wasn’t winning a national title at Minnesota this year either. They are all crying over spilled milk

Right. Or telling a kid to go in the portal and we will take you. Of course there are ways around that as well. It is the wild west out there in every sport.
