You want to have Briles coach because he has an insane amount of talent at his school? Do you think he'll be able to get that same level of talent if he doesn't have oil boosters to get them to Nebraska? Or what about if he did find a way to get booster support in recruiting - would you still want him if you knew that he was bending rules to get players?

Everyone has their price but from what I heard he is a Texas man and doesn't want to leave the state of Texas.
That said I hope the whorns never hire him.

Well, I agree that Briles has some rumors surrounding his recruiting efforts, but I don't think we can dismiss his success as coasting on talent. He's a solid coach. Like everything at Baylor these days he's a bit shady, but the guy knows how to win.

I agree. Briles is the real deal. I would've loved to see him here. As far as recruiting talent, I do believe he would've gotten some great players here. We've had coaches with far less connections in Texas than he had that were able to pull some good players here. I think Briles would've been fine. Can't speak on the shady rumors b/c I don't know much about them.

If we were still in the Big 12, Briles would maybe be a possibility, but we aren't (duh) so I have to wonder how much his heart would be in it here. Briles is one of those guys who, if you have to throw 10 mil. a year at him to get him, is never going to work. Coaches have to take a job in part because they want to be somewhere, Briles heart would never be in it here, I think Patterson is the same way. I mention those two because we're talking about them, and I read many a posters mention them as replacements to Blo last season.

Baylor a passing team? The run the ball a greater percentage of the time than does MSU, OSU, and even Iowa. There may be a handful of teams that run it a greater percentage of the time than does Baylor...but that's it. They run 65% of the time.

Baylor has lost its best passing quarterbacks due to injuries. They struggled late in the season due to the injuries, but Briles changed the offense during bowl practices emphasizing running plays. Good coaching on his part.

I didn't say Baylor was pass happy - I wrote "supposed pass happy" - as that is the perception to the casual fan ... kudos to you for knowing the reality


below is a quote from a recent USA Today article .. verifying that many see Baylor as a pass happy offense

Being in Oklahoma probably makes a difference. Baylor gets good coverage here and it pretty evident that when the Cowboys and Sooners play them the priority is always stopping the run.
