So what kind of mattress does btodd sleep on?

I sleep on a king pillow top finished on both sides that I built and alternate with an air mattress that I also built. The pillow top for comfort and the firmness of the air mattress when I'm worn out and start feeling my age!

So was joey's point anything that's not custom built and crazy expensive is crap and therefore might as well buy the cheapest there is (IKEA)? Did I understand that correctly? Like either you drive a Ferrari or a pinto, no in between?

Yes.

IKEA isn't the absolute cheapest, it's the cheapest of the "honest" products that I've found.

We financed a $2500 Tempurpedic last year and love it. Worth every penny if you ask me, no matter how much money you mattress elitists think I wasted (didn't realize we were at the point in society where mattress elitists even exist).

I value objects based on the experience they can provide me in relation to other objects built for the same purpose.

To me, an IKEA bed holds my mattress up just fine, its simple, honest lines are aesthetically pleasing.

For me, the the scale of "provided experience" from Pinto to Ferrari is very compressed at the low end when applied to furniture. If my IKEA bed is a Pinto, then Ashley Furniture is a Grenada, Stickley is a VW kit-car of a 1920's Mercedes, and a Phillip Starck custom bed would be a Ferrari.

I am also a minimalist and view almost every object in my life as essentially disposable. And I hate "stuff."

Personally I love ****. Lots of it. Love needless toys, furniture, expensive **** I could get for cheaper, luxury cars, nice hotels, overpriced food, clothes than cost more because of a label, Italian shoes, Yeti coolers, expensive scotchs and wines that I couldn't tell the difference from Trader Joe brands.

I have no clue WTF you're talking about but glad to hear your weirdo views are only about furniture, because I definitely disagree with regards to other industries. Now if only you can convince my ball and chain to only buy IKEA LOLOL!!

Don't feel bad.

If I was handed a solid family business without having worked for any of it, I would feel the same way. I'd probably have the simple grammatical & spelling errors included since I would never worry a day in my life about appearing as a professional.

Not worried about appearing professional on a message board. Also, worked here now 17 years without any type of ownership or being handed anything. Starting as a delivery driver, then CSR and helping take the place from 8 employees to 180 in that time.

The rest though, it's a good life and I'm unbelievably fortunate. Sorry your parents aren't selling you a business instead they instilled you with some weird *** tendencies. Must of struck a nerve. Lol.

That level of spelling and grammar should be effortless.

I'm sure your time at your parent's business was a lot of blood sweat and tears, you seem to really value its fruits as such.

Grammar and nepotism. Got anything else? Graphic T joke? Not sure why you felt the need to go personal.

For all that fancy typing you do, I would bet more people understand my southend hilljack takes than the weird obscure **** you post about. You see, I don't act a certain way to throw it in peoples face and prove my superiority.

I am exposed to a lot of nonsensical spelling and grammar mistakes in a "professional" environment and it drives me insane. This board is an easy place to vent about it and fight the good fight for the dying art of language.

As a heads-up to you, I thought I would point out that your poor grammar (in context with your position in your family business) is a glaring indicator of nepotism. This is a perfect environment to give you some feedback on that. I'm just helping you out.

If droves of "Southend hilljacks" agreed with my takes, I would take that as a bad thing.

I work for a HVAC contractor not an architect firm. A few months ago we had to get the guys to stop drawing dicks all over the building. I think I'm ok. Thanks for the concern. For important matters I have my correspondence checked. Now you can sleep better on your $300 "keeping it real" Ikea mattress.

FWIW, we have some friends that work at Tempur-Pedic that gave us a 65% Friends & Family Discount and came away with a Cloud Luxe -- it's pretty amazing.

Sounds like that move from the affluent and intellectual NYC to bumtouch NKY really took its toll on you.

Do you sign off your formal correspondence in calligraphy, too? Or use a corncob to wipe your ***?

I don't know you, and maybe you put up some type of facade on this board to seem hip and intelligent, but I can't imagine any scenario where another human would find you the least bit likable or enjoyable to be around. Although judging from your posts, you probably prefer it that way.

I echo most of these sentiments. Except I can tell the difference between two buck chuck and the good stuff.

I bought my last mattress because a girl I was after mentioned the brand and got rather excited about it. That got me excited about it. And yes, it was worth every penny.

Nah we didn't have to finance it. Would've paid for it outright if it wasn't a 0% interest plan. $41/month for 5 years just sounds better than $2500 once... no downside there.

This mattress keeps my back from hurting when others don't, so yeah it's worth it to me.

Not familiar with "Speedway Men". Are you asking if I get gas at Speedway? I mean, yeah I'm sure I have at some point... Is there some special hipster gas station that I'm not aware of? Is Five Star the hipster gas station of choice? Thornton's perhaps?

FWIW, the damn guest room mattress that WS bought 15 years ago for $150 is my favorite bed in the house.

Same at our house. When I *really* need a perfect sleep or am really struggling to get there..., up the stairs I go to the ghetto mattress, and sleep like a dream every time.

You realize none of those plans are 0% interest? Especially 60 month plans. You paid for that financing somewhere.

Idk man maybe, I'm not an expert on the intricacies of financing. I just know the options they gave us were $2500 once or $41.67/month for 60 months....which is $2500. And like I said earlier, to me it's worth every cent.

Either way, I figure the $40 a month I spend on my mattress is recouped by not spending a penny on things like coffee or cigs. How much do you coffee drinkers and smokers spend per month on THAT stuff?

For me, the pillow is way more important to how I sleep at night. I would pay someone pretty good $ if they could make an exact duplicate of my pillow.

I don't really care for the tempur-pedic mattress, but I swear by their pillows.

Next time you buy something that is offering "payments" just tell them to give you the cheapest with you paying with cash or check. Yes, there was a finance fee hidden in there somewhere. The 60 month plans we get are in the teens.

I run into the dregs at my Speedway and it makes me sad because I find them unpleasant.

You said that you would prefer to not be around me because I come off as very unpleasant.

You also admitted to financing a mattress.

I did the "dreg math" and came up with a theory a guy who finances a mattress is just the type of loser I end up waiting behind at Speedway.

The joke comes from guessing at this connection and wryly (like an *******) asking you, the butt of the joke, to confirm it. Tagging it with "perchance" (to play up the absurd class warfare angle this thread has taken on at times) is what makes it a pretty good joke.

The best part of the joke, so far, is that you didn't get the joke.

Now, I ("no joke") really never want to hang out with you in real life. But, I would appreciate hearing more of your strategies to get ahead in life!
