Look, I see a lot of posts in here saying Mark Stoops should be fired. First off, coming from a Nole fan who would know, Mark Stoops can flat out coach. DJ Elliott also can flat out coach. We had a Top 5 defense in Stoops's and Elliott's last two years here. What is the difference between Stoops's UK defense and the defense he had with us? Could the reason possibly be the talent level?

Look, regardless of what the record show, UK is on the Upswing. The recruiting shows that. But UK fans need to realize where you started. Joker had a 2-10 record in his last year as coach. He was competing with MAC schools for recruits. You don't fix that in two or three years. That is at least a five year project. Give Stoops five years, see where the program is at, then decide to make a change if that is what needs to be done.

I stopped reading right there. You have no idea what's going on here, but before you embarrass yourself, you should examine the threads to see all the bonehead decisions Stoops has been making. You have no clue what you're talking about.

Ok, please list some examples.

We are going to give him five years. You see him as the guy who turned around your defense. Which he did do. However, as a head coache is in way over his head. You haven't watched what we have watched.

You are looking at

2-10
5-7
4-6

There is so much more to it. I really don't want to relive all the pain but trust me. As a whole, we are a poorly coached football team. I don't give a shat if he brings in a top 30ish class if he and his buddies can't coach.

Florida, with all of their talent, found out great defensive coordinators don't necessarily make great head coaches. Ridiculous post and observation.

Ok, please list some examples.

1. Calling timeout before a punt.
2. Failing to call timeout to prevent a delay of game penalty before a FG that would have cut Vandy lead to 1 point.
3. Having 8 men on the field on defense when Auburn was punting.
4. Having 10 men on the field yesterday before a FG and thus leading to aforementioned delay of game.
5. Going for it on 4th and 1 on the 50 yard line with 1 minute remaining in the half and then throwing a low percentage bomb that was covered.
6. Failing to cover a trick play yesterday after the debacle listed in #5 above and thus giving Vandy what ended up being the winning touchdown.
7. Falling in love with the fade pass again on 2nd and goal from the 1 that ended up being an INT.
8. Not having the right personnel on the field in the first half when we failed to score four times from the 1 yard line.

The list could go on, but there are 8 examples that are directly related to poor coaching, disorganization, and mismanagement. You likely aren't watching all of our games from beginning to end like we are, so not sure why you come over here and start a thread acting like we are unreasonable. It's not that we are losing, it's the how and the why we are losing that is very concerning.

Another to list is, if I am not mistaken, the blocked punt occurred because UK had 2 blockers in front of the punter instead of 3.

#7 was on Towles. He changed the call at the line. But, his stubbornness to stay with Towles could also be listed.

UK has also given up points to the opposition before the half bc of horrible mis mgt of the clock the last 4 games before last nite too. Stoops may be able to coach as a coordinater but we're in a 2nd half collapse for the 2nd straight year. You can have him back and give us Jimbo Fisher please!

I agree with you that Stops can coach defense. Our defense is probably improved this year and that's after losing our two best players to the NFL. However, I think what we're (BBN) are worried about is whether he can coach the "rest" of the team.

The most frustrating thing is the lack of discipline. We make so many mistakes compared to tuning in on almost any other game. Seems that most punt returns we have penalty. False starts are almost normal. Personal fouls pretty regular. Dropped balls by every player. Our DB's are the worst at covering a pass in a lot of years. Only one guy (Edwards) plays with any kind of consistency in the D backfield. Special teams are bad at staying in their lanes on kickoffs and now just blocking for the punter was an issue Saturday. Just a few things off the top of my head. So much of this stuff is coaching. Some of it you rarely see at a high school game.

Saturday you had the feel that both teams were trying their best to lose. Knew it would take a lot to lose to the worst coach in the league.

Posted this on another thread, but it fits here too:

Saw my first live UK FB game at the end of Blanton Collier era (early 1960's). Listened to or watched, live until recently, the vast majority of teams and coaches since (and there were some poor coaches during that 50+ years).

(Don't think Stoops should be fired at this time and ) Hate to pile on, but try as I might, I simply can't recall:

1. a team more fundamentally unsound as the teams from the Stoops era (with this year's team being the absolute worst fundamentally of the three Stoops teams) or
2. a coaching staff as unorganized in actual games as this staff has appeared to be the past several games.

Even the Mark Major defenses under Mumme, while perhaps more inept, were more organized on game day.

I coached with a guy that played OLine for FSU. He swears by Stoops. Said he has never seen someone work so hard and be so detail oriented. That is why some of these blunders in making me scratch my head. He also said that the other guys on FSU LOVED Stoops.

I am optimistic that Stoops will get this fixed. I suspect that part of it will fix itself as all of the FR & Soph grow up and as the competition level increases at every spot.
