There have also been mentions of Mac as a "coach". Who is leaving?

Did someone leave? NU site still lists the same staff, but I'm pretty sure 3 assistants is the max...

High character coach, great recruiter with extensive ties in the midwest especially St Louis/Chicago. Had a lot of success at SIU and following with Coach Weber. Admittedly biased but great hire!

Lowery was head coach at SIU when the Salukis had some truly excellent teams in the mid 2000s, including one that narrowly lost to Kansas in the sweet 16. Those teams were well known for in your face, physical and aggressive man defenses so I would suspect he’ll be a big influence on that end

Is it fair to say that Chris Lowery is a guy who graduated from SIU, eventually got hired by Bruce Weber as an assistant at SIU, became the head coach when Weber took the Illinois job, but after a few trips to the NCAA tournament, couldn't keep the program at Weber's lofty standards, then followed Weber to Kansas State as an assistant? It doesnt look like Lowery has had another D1 coaching job.

Mostly true. Matt Painter was the SIU head coach for one season after Weber left though.....

I suppose, but seems like a quality hire overall.

so we have too many coaches and not enough players...interesting strategy
It's kind of weird that the NCAA rules allow for 4 coaches for 13 scholarship players in hoops, but only 11 for 85 scholarship players in football.......

It’s not a daycare. (Teacher-pupil ratio!)

CL was on the short list back when UM fired Amaker around 2006. SIU gave him a big extension to stick around and things went south for he and SIU after that.

He did get the Salukis into the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament in 2007, before they lost a tight game to #1 seed Kansas.

But the main players on that SIU team were recruited by Bruce Weber or Matt Painter. After those players were gone, SIU turned down.

Maybe Lowery is a better coach than recruiter...

So Borovich was doing most of the recruiting for Collins?
And James is doing most of the coaching?

Thats a fine kettle of fish...

So our 3 assistant coaches are Chris Lowery, Bryant McIntosh and Talor Battle...
Buie and Berry will get a lot of coaching!
The big guys are on their own?

Brian James is "Special Assistant to the Head Coach" which sounds a bit like Dwight Shrute as "Assistant to the Regional Manager"

Happy for McIntosh though. He has potential.

Because everything is related, it should be noted that the reason Nick Martinelli decommitted from Elon was because the Elon head coach was brought to DOOK as…special assistant to the head coach.
