Hankwitz pretty openly lobbied for McPherson as his replacement. My guess is that the unspoken facts are that McPherson and O'Neill will function as co-defensive coordinators next year. The hiring of a new DB coach (and yes, that is the role I think he will actually assume) is a means of freeing up McPherson and not embarrassing O'Neill. Remember Anderson was the OL coach-in-waiting, coming on board to help coach the OL while Cushing spent the year looking for work? This may be a very similar situation. As for Genyk working with TEs - is anyone happy with our TE play? This can only help. Fitz can coach special teams too. Trust that Fitz has a plan and knows what he is doing.

Not sure where to start here… Fitz didn’t “openly lobby” for MacPherson, he made a one-off comment on The Foundation. Anderson did not “cover” for Cushing spending a year looking for work, he wasn’t able to actually coach as an analyst.

Sad to see a longtime member of our coaching staff go out on barely a sputter, but he's got to see some highs here over the past 10+ years.

That makes sense, ie., co DCs. Other teams do it to save face as well although i know of no model where that worked. Instead of whacking his brother, Bobby Stoops worked it out to have co DCs at Oklahoma. Didnt work.
Never hire family or great buddies. Objectivity is lost.

He had a long and impressive career (43 years!). When it’s time, it’s time. And if you look at the list of super backs and TEs that he coached for us, it’s rather impressive.

Thank you for your contributions, Coach Heff!

Thats all fake what you just commented. You dont know. You were booted out and might have been one of only a few who were persuaded to leave the program.
Genryk buddy Anderson
Mccall buddy Springer
Fitz buddy JON

Catmantrue was right. Never a good idea to hire buddies or family.

Speaking of nepotism, we'll see it up close this weekend as Brian Ferentz goes up against Michigan's D. Their situation is worse that ours, long term, because NFW Brian Ferentz gets fired, AND they might get stuck with him as HC for a generation when the ole gum chewer retires. Luckily for them, their version of Hank, Phil Parker, is "only" 59 and will probably coach for another 5-10 years
