Any word on if the two thrown out Sunday are suspended today?

Well, they just released the lineup and McCoy is playing 1B and Gilliam isn't in the lineup. I highly doubt that this was a coaching decision, which would lead me to believe that the ejection did carry a 1 game suspension.

That sucks, but I bet you’re right.

Sorry I got home late and just turned the game. Cats lead 2-0 top of the 5th. Crowd looks decent on TV.

One thing I’ll say that irks me about Mingione. And he’s had this problem since he’s been here. Why does he never play the second catcher? Don’t get me wrong. Burkes needs to be in the lineup. But you need a reliable backup.

Kentucky down 3-2 after hitting a batter, single, double, single. Now those LOB's matter.

Thought we'd see that with Stanke this year. I was wrong. When Stanke has played he's been DH and not C. The concern there is that Burkes gets worn down by season's end from catching every day. Just not a good practice in my opinion.

I just think about Kessler from a couple of years ago. Started out on a tear but by mid SEC play, you could just tell he was worn down. And it showed on his stats.

Cats up 5-3 by stringing some hits together. Single, homer, walk and a double.

6-3 Cats with a bases loaded sac fly (really line drive) with no outs. Bases loaded again, one out.

WaldSchmidt strikes out for our 10th strikeout, two outs. Stanke draws a walk to score the the run.

The first two seasons all they did was rotate between Cottam and Squires. I think it has a lot to do with defense and controlling the running game right now. Just an observation but seems like teams are running a lot more on Stanke and Devin's "steal a strike" rate is way higher. But i'd be saving his legs too. Maybe now that Stanke having better ABs that changes.

Did anyone catch exactly what happened? I know they said excessive celebration. Leaving the dugout ?
Gilliam was the bat flip, sounds like Byars was victim of umps just trying to get both dugouts under control. Randomly pick a guy in a jacket who isnt playing and make a statement

This was a "get a win any way you can and go home" type of outing. Kind of sleepwalked through the first half but bats came alive and pitching was good, as usual.

Big series this weekend. Would be very pleased with a 2-1 series win.

I dont know.. watching them both in person, stanke definitely has the better arm. That's the first thing I noticed about him at Elon... dude shoots lasers from behind the plate. I actually think he and burkes are comparable defensively and framing-wise. So, I was really surprised that Stanke was in the lineup as a DH a couple games ago instead just having Burkes DH and stanke behind the plate. If you're gonna have stanke in the lineup anyway, why not give burkes a break that day and have him DHing?!

We will see how it goes moving forward, but in my opinion the best thing to use those midweek games as breaks. Against EKU, we can have Burkes DH and we're not going to have such a big drop off on defense that it will make a significant enough difference in the game. Plus, losing that game isn't likely to hurt your season at this point. Steal a game here or there on the midweek and Burkes will still fresher longer. Of course, Burkes is a heck of an athlete, so he'll still be fine either way I imagine, but certainly can't hurt to get him some days in the dugout instead of in the crouch.
