Louisville
Kenny Payne did not inherit (or create) the type of roster that's going to give him much of a chance to win at a notable level in his first year at Louisville. Eli Ellis is the leading returning scorer and a solid backcourt player, but there's just not enough talent around him. So this transition to a new era at Louisville probably won't start out smoothly. And the fact that top-ranked recruit DJ Wagner just signed a NIL deal with Nike -- FYI: Louisville is NOT a Nike school -- is the latest sign that Payne isn't likely to land the five-star prospect who was theoretically supposed to jumpstart the Louisville program, which has at least temporarily zapped some of the enthusiasm that was initially attached to Payne's hiring.

I hope they are wrong. Then again I didn’t like where they ranked us in FB either. I do believe we are better than third to last.

Well they ranked us to finish 3rd overall in the conference in football so maybe ranking us to finish 3rd to last means we will finish 3rd from the top.

I don't see us finishing behind BC and Clemson, I'd say no worse than 10th, may 9th. You can't look at last year's results and base anything going forward from that. It was a **** show on and off the court and will be totally different this year. Maybe rose colored glasses but throw out last year and don't let that be a part of predicting this year.

We are very short-handed offensively, and we will struggle until the NCAA cloud passes

UL is picked to finish 12th in the league ahead of only BC, Pitt and Ga. Tech. To put this into perspective, last year’s horrible season, in which we finished 6-14 in the conference…..was an 11th place finish. So, their expectation is that we will be worse this year. Also, the Cards had no one selected for any preseason honor. For those who feel that KP will pull us out of the doldrums, you’re not getting much love for that position. For those who are skeptical of the KP hire, know that others apparently share that skepticism. Let’s toss it up and see how it goes!

While “the cloud” may not affect how the team performs on the court this year; this year’s roster and it’s subsequent performance this upcoming season is ALL about the damage from “the NCAA cloud”.

I interpreted this OP to be calling attention to the media’s low expectations for KP’s inaugural season, one that has a talent challenged roster that goes directly to this NCAA cloud, a result of discouraging any high level recruits/transfers from coming to UL.

Payne was not my first choice, but I appreciate just how courageous it is for his decision to accept this position under such difficult circumstances.

The media is projecting this years roster and how they think the team will perform. The NCAA decision has nothing to do with the team UofL will be putting on the court this year. The media isn’t projecting its predictions of of the discouraging recruiting affects that UofL had as a result of the NCAA.

Exactly, in happier times some of the guys that are going to get asked to play heavy minutes this year would be playing a lot less and would be buried on a depth chart. Just because a kid has a mid 4* rank doesn't mean he's ready to play heavy minutes immediately in the ACC.

And in happier times there's a system that is stable and roles and system are fully understood by majority of the players on the team.

Well the media picks by what the team has on this years roster, and the how they project this years team will perform. I don’t doubt that the roster has been damaged by the NCAA indecisiveness. This years team is what it is and I doubt that they will play much different this year once or if the NCAA makes its decision.
