I don't understand the question.
IHSA allows 6 quarters of play. I know a JV player can play 2 quarters in a JV game, then play 4 quarters in a Varsity game (or vice versa). Is there any reason a Frosh cannot do the same?

I am pretty sure it is a conference rule that frosh cannot play varsity football in a CCL game. I know that was the rule a few years ago.

IHSA has no rule on quarters of play. Those are set by the conference.

Freshman are only allowed up on Varsity for the playoffs, at least in the Blue.

  1. I recall a few years ago where Gordon Tech played Leo in the Prep Bowl playoffs and beat them.They played some Frosh & I think they said they had permission.Leo then turned them in

I went and just read the story.It said Frosh can play in the playoffs but not against league opponents.Now not sure if that means their conference or the whole Catholic League.Also don't know if say Brother Rice played St Rita in the playoffs if that means no Frosh

Rule was changed after that GT vs. LEO game, Frosh can play in varsity games now regardless if conference game or not.

Thanks, I was told of the possibility of someone I know starting on varsity football team this year.

Only for the playoffs can they be called up and be able to play. MC and Rita I know don't even allow Freshman to play on the Soph level, they want them with their class their first year....I know Rice used to bring Fr. to Soph but have stopped doing so the past couple years.

Rice allows Sophs to play Varsity - only will bring up a Frosh for playoff roster but rarelly will they play - Smalling is an exception - I think he scored a touchdown on his first Varsity touch and then on this 4th
