Said it last year and will say it till the cows come home. Last year we had two good running backs who averaged 4-5 yards a carry. Last year's team was expected to do much better than the end result. We would go up by two scores and then start passing instead of running the ball to eat up the clock which happened at Marmion (loss) and DeKalb (playoff loss). The defense hurt us last year in not being able to stop the run as effectively as they have done this year.
Bigger and better linemen on both the O and D lines for Montini is the big difference as well as a lot of underclass kids got chances to play last year and have that experience has really helped this team. I think that as you said earlier this year that Coaches Bu and Casey have committed to the run and the results show it. The passing offense this year is good and better than last year with the ability to hit the longer passes.
Interesting to hear how the Blue in CCL is not that good or down this year. I have seen Montini's freshmen and Soph teams play these same Blue teams for the last 5 years and surprise, surprise they have 9 times out of ten played those games close or won outright. Quite frankly, Montini, IMO is not getting enough credit for the strength of its entire program (Frosh thru Varsity) Seems to me but I could be wrong that a lot of folks are envious of the Montini's football dominance for the past 10 years or so. Hence the success factor of basically a 4a school into a 6A class which some folks felt would eventually hurt the programs ability to win a state championship.
Oh, I get the good team 8-0 record compliment but you know the Blue is down this year. Hell, Mt. Carmel IMO would beat all the teams in the Blue that Montini beat this year too. Could it be that a 5A team beating 8a, 7a, etc teams is not supposed to happen therefore these other teams are mediocre. Loyola in my opinion is not a mediocre team and I look to see them do well in the playoffs. Nobody says that the 8-0 record of LWE is mediocre because the opponents are so-so and rightfully so. Hell, again, Montini would have beaten some of the teams the Beast did too. Oh, I forgot a 5a team is not supposed to beat an 8A team. Tell that to Naz another success factored team and IC which will be success factored shortly. Just venting about some of the comments on the board. I am not crowing about this years team as there is a lot of football to play and they certainly could stumble this year maybe even this upcoming Friday, but then again I could fall back on the fact that an 8A BR should beat a 4A success factored team as that is the way it is supposed to happen. LOL
