This is simply people not respecting Louisville until they see a winner. They all know Syracuse is not as talented and picking an upset in this game is just a chance to pick an upset early in the season.

If we pull into our turtle shell like SS has done a whole lot, Cards may lose.
I can't stand it when CSS takes his foot off the gas and starts the three yards and a cloud of dust crap.

The only reason some of the scores were so lopsided last year is because the offense couldn't help but score or the defense scored.

This UL offense should have an improved running game over last season; as Evans brings the RB size and power that we missed last season. So many times a 3rd and short yardage situation required either a pass reception, or a Malik scramble to sustain a drive; as there was no confidence in our short yardage running game.

Ironically, CSS may now have the personnel that can execute that same conservative approach that was unable to protect a lead last year. If Evans can run for 100+ yards with 20 carrys, it will bode very well for this offense.

“They” say this is supposed to be Dino’s best team since 2018. Cuse has some talent. Plus, we’ve had their number. Things can and do turn around.

So we have the same defense as last year and they are going to make up 38 points. Got it Pete!

First game of the season, lots of uncertainty on both sides. Time to kick it off and find out. I'll be dug in like a tick on a bloodhound expecting a back and forth with a better prepared and tested group this time around. Can't wait...
Go Cards!

What I don’t want to see by Cards Saturday night:
First Game jitters
Conservative, predictable play calling
Prevent defense
Huge cushions on Syracuse WRs
Dropped passes
Turnovers
Weak or nonexistent QB pressure
Malik taking too much on his own shoulders
Overlooking open receivers for medium gains
Missed field goals or PATs

Basically, I want to see a confident, well-prepared team that executes well And a coaching staff that’s not afraid to go big.
GO CARDS!!

100%.

For me, the two main ones are CSS taking his foot off the gas and trying to sit on a lead. You can do that if you're Bama, we can't.

The "Prevent you from winning" defense makes me NUTS. I'll never understand that. I'm not a DC though so there's that.

No running game without Malik, if we can't run without him extending plays, we are in BIG time trouble.

I hear ya. The only thing that worries me is their new OC cam from Virginia ,he carved our D up last year.
I don’t consider last year’s Va. loss as a tribute to their OC. We had that game big going into the fourth quarter. Then we went into the prevent defense. That loss was more on our coaching staff.

That is one of two weaknesses CSS has, allowing the DC to go into a prevent D and trying to sit on a lead like we are Bama or something.

To be fair though, he had the horses at Appy State to do just that, maybe he has finally learned that that dog won't hunt in the ACC.

Not really. Our most loaded running back depth we have had in a while. When Cooley is listed as your 3rd or 4th back, it means we are loaded..

I feel great about our running backs! I also believe our receivers will be solid if not as deep as the running back room. Offense was good last year and no real reason (excepting injuries) to believe it won’t be better this year. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m still not sold on the defense, but I can be easily be made a believer with a strong showing Saturday night.

That was supposed to read:

"IF we don't have a running game without Malik."

I agree we have great RBs and a solid online.

It doesn't matter if your offense is conservative OR predictable.

EXECUTE and it works.

The wildest, most unpredictable plays in the world won't work if you don't execute.

And if you can't execute simple, odds are you won't the other.

Just more excuses. It's not just losing to Syracuse but how we're losing. The team just wasn't prepared and unbelievably as it may sound, over confident.

Satterfield may be a good head coach but one thing he's not good at, at least here at UofL, is play calling. If he continues to coordinate the offense and call plays, this is what we're going to see.

I didn't see signs of being overconfident, now overmatched yes... He doesn't call plays on the defense so thats only half the issue...
