Has anyone done this? You buy a reservation for a face value ticket. If your team goes to the Championship, you buy a ticket at face value. If they don’t, you lose your “rsvp” money.

PSU is currently $125.
Texas $449
Georgia $274
OSU $199
Oregon $120
ND $160
BSU $21
ASU $18

Interesting, but where does it place you in the stadium? I wouldn't imagine a good seat. I bought my ticket to the Rose Bowl against Utah through Penn State. Had I waited, I could have bought a better seat that cost less through the secondary market on game day.

This RSVP system gives you crappy seats in my opinion. Your RSVP chooses either the corner of the end zone in the lower level or the end zone in the upper level. Some people prefer end-zone seats looking straight down the field so you can see holes open up, but I'm not a fan. Lower-level corners make it hard to perceive depth at the other end zone. The secondary market is usually always a crap shoot. I contended that the early playoff games would see weak demand. The next round will be interesting to see demand. But the Championship is usually always a premium.
