He had a bad game. Basketball players do that from time to time.

Welcome to basketball!
We’re going to need Chandler. He’s probably our 2nd or third best player. Our offense wasn’t great tonight, but, our defense focused on guarding the 3 in the second half, and, frankly, if Indiana can’t make threes, they aren’t beating anyone.

What was up with Jasper Johnson ?
in real competition he is:

IU: 0-2, 0 points
Gonz: 2-7, 8 points
UNC: 1-4, 2 points
MSU: 3-7, 8 points
UL: 0-4, 0 points

thats 25% shooting on top of taking terrible shots and playing terrible defense. other than being from kentucky.....what reason is there to play? him?

Pope did the same last year, he wants to get a feel for everyone in the first half but in the second he'll tighten the rotation. He did it more as the season went on, and of course injuries pruned the roster pretty heavily as well.

If Lowe keeps playing like that he doesn't need to be out there.

Pope is coaching well. I saw 7-8 times tonight when someone made a terrible decision and Pope benched them immediately

Have to keep it balanced. Sometimes you have to let a guy play through a couple of mistakes especially if other parts of the game are going good. Cal was bad about that.

I'm glad Pope is making some progress with this group though.

I think he did it right. I didn't see the hook for simple missed shots. But, on the possession where DA drove into 4 guys and threw up an airball layup, he was yanked two seconds later. I like it

Tough love in the 2nd half. Didn’t play much. Jelavic in the doghouse. Pope is going to make this a defensive team and hopefully the shooting turns.
Shooting will not turn around until 1, they start moving and less dribbling, and 2 they stop shooting bad 3's early in the shot clock. They fix that they will score more points, and the defense is improving.

When JQ gets back he will probably be our 5th best player, but still need him to contribute. He does some things well, but tonight and wasn’t his night.

Chandler has the athleticism to get his shot off in the mid-range game but he just dribbles in to traffic and pump fakes until he is in trouble. He doesn’t recognize the kick out either.

Pope thought he could go two games with Chandler and Noah in the starting line up and play the 3 ball style he's know for. Problem:. Noah shoots okay against cupcakes but has never scored much against better competition and Chandler and Noah couldn't D their men. Reality: this team jelled in second half with Noah, Chandler, Aberdeen (and hate to say it Freshman center) on the bench. I say that dominate 2nd half line up should get the major minutes going forward until it don't work.

he plays like an old man at the YMCA. afraid of contact. go strong to the basket and get fouled, but instead he slow dribbles and backs his man into the lane which destroys the spacing and allows defenders to swarm him. why this isn't coached out of him is beyond me...

I think he's shaking off the rust and finding his confidence with that shoulder.

In the 2nd half, he was getting into the paint a lot. He couldn't finish for a lot of the game. The last few minutes, he had a couple of really tough finishes. He had a few nice passes. I think he'll look like himself vs St. John's.

Some players have bad games. Chandler is the least of my worries and has shown up in nearly every game this year. Been a huge bright spot. I bet he responds well against the Johnnies!

Loved to see shots early in the shot clock.

Offense got bogged down with Aberdeen/Chandler handling. They were goaded into half court offense and couldn't produce from it. I'm curious to see who starts against St. John's next week.
