The #B1GCats game uniforms are getting some modifications for 2015-16. Follow us on Instagram (numensbball) to get the exclusive first look.

The current set is pretty good- great in comparison to almost all of the other uniforms worn by NU over the last 20 years or so- so hopefully they don't mess them up. One idea I'd like to see is an alternate jersey with "Wildcats" instead of "Northwestern" on the front. I don't think NU has worn "Wildcats" since the 80's.

Here's a link to images of the new uniforms.

The side striping has changed from diagonal to vertical, which looks a lot cleaner. I'm not sure about the alternating grey/white pattern in the fabric of the back of the home uniform, but other schools have used this kind of design element and the contrast in colors tends to be small enough you barely notice it in person. They also added a 'Pound the Rock' logo, but that part of the jersey will be tucked in so no one will see it during a game.

Overall, I'd say it's an improvement.

I am not purely against said uniforms, but is there an NCAA rule about that sort of varying shade?

Don't know about that, Noah, but I WOULD like to know that you've found something locally; the game would definitely not be the same without your unparalleled enthusiasm . . . especially in what may be our long-awaited breakthrough year. Tell us you'll be there, business as usual. (?)

Unfortunately, I will not. I got a job at Wisconsin-Stout as a math lecturer for a year. I won't have more than a cameo appearance at a game, and even that is uncertain, since Menomonie is a 6-hour drive from Evanston.

I believe there is a rule- or am I thinking of the NBA?- about the front and back of a jersey needing to be basically the same color. It was created in response to some jerseys having widely different colors for the front and back.

As I said in my reply, I don't think the fabric pattern will contrast as much on the actual jerseys as it does in the rendering. It would have been nice if they had created an NU-specific pattern.

Interesting that they took the pictures down...

The uniforms are getting to the point where they are just ridiculous. We have had some nice classic versions. I like the all white, all purple and then the black alternates. All these lines, piping etc. is just ridiculous and honestly its to the point where even the players are like whats with all the design patterns. Get it right and stick to one for a few seasons.

Who the hell cares what they look like, it's just win baby win. It's my understanding that the players have some say so into the uniform design and that's all that should count.

I have to say I liked the NU Stripe around the chest. It makes for a crisp clean look and a recognizable icon if we use the stripe as often as possible. But I am old so what do I know?
