Named linebackers coach by cristobal at Miami. Their boosters better start keeping tabs on their wives. 😂😂😂

Pretty steep drop for him in the last 10 years once again proving that the grass isn’t always greener - particularly for coaches that leave UofL. The curse lives!

Charlie couldn’t have stayed even if he wanted to., after all that went down in his personal life. The timing was perfect for him. But, yes. He’s not even a coordinator. Quite the fall.

I’m starting to think some one killed a chicken at the 50 yard line with voodoo spells.

As far as I'm concerned he left us and failed at every stop along the way afterwards. His conservative brand of football just isn't what we want or need at UofL. He had great assistants at UofL and that was the reason for his success here.

I’d sure love to go back to New Orleans and win another Sugar Bowl. If it takes ”conservative” football to do that I’m all for it. The assistants certainly played a large part in the Card’s success during Strong’s tenure but who brought in those assistants? Look where the team was when Strong came to Louisville. I was at the Sugar Bowl and stayed at the Marriott where the team was located. I saw what the players thought of Strong.

Then perhaps you can explain why he was such a failure as a head coach everywhere he went after UofL. I believe that he had great assistants here and that after he left here those guys "voted" against him at his other stops along the way. Please don't misunderstand as I'm glad that we gave him his first head coaching opportunity here but he was not loyal to UofL at all. I resent that.

Who knows why he didn’t work out at Texas and USF? I suspect his problem at Texas was that he moved to a school which had never recruited heavily in South Florida where he had always concentrated his recruiting. By the same token Strong’s name wasn’t known in the high schools of Texas, Oklahoma and California where Texas normally draws it’s talent. By the time he got to USF he was yesterday’s news. I’m not sure how his assistants “voted against him“ at Texas and USF. Are you saying that they sabotaged his efforts at those schools? As far as him being disloyal to UofL I’m not going to hold it against him that he took a job at one of the top 5 football programs in the country. If you’re going to resent Strong for leaving UofL to go to Texas you have to resent Corso for going to Indiana, Howard for going to Oklahoma, Smith for going to Michigan State, and Petrino for going to the Falcons (everyone of whom failed at their next stop). In short you have to resent every single successful football coach UofL has had since the early 70s. Because they all left Louisville for what they thought were greener pastures.
You stated in your first post that Strong’s conservative brand of football isn’t what we want or need at UofL. All I’m saying is that I was very satisfied with that brand of football when he was here and I wish someone could duplicate the level of success he had at Louisville.

So in reading the various post above am I seeing that some of you want Charlie Strong back here. Is that right? Or are you just talking *****? I believe the latter is the situation. Especially considering his record at the other schools after he left UofL.

I believe the only person peddling ***** is you. I noted that Strong brought in the assistants to whom you give the credit for his success at Louisville. Is that *****? I asserted that I would like to see the Cards return to the level of success they enjoyed when Strong took them to the Sugar Bowl title in 13. Is that *****? I asserted that every successful head football coach at Louisville since Corso met your definition of being disloyal to UofL by leaving for greener pastures. Is that *****? I never said I want him back as head coach and I don’t want him back in that capacity. The fact that he didn’t have any success as a head coach after leaving Louisville doesn’t mean that I can’t appreciate the success he had as our head coach and disagree with someone who denigrates his role in that success.

I think the best coach on Charlie’s UofL staff was the guy who is now the defensive coordinator with the Seattle Seahawks. That same coach also had a major role in us landing Teddy Bridgewater.

And the fact that Coach Strong was not allowed to hire that coach at Texas, and that he could not afford to hire him at USF played a very large role in CCS’s failures after UofL.

Come on Pushup, there are literally hundreds and hundreds of qualified coaches in the USA and you're saying that one guy made the difference. Total BS. Charlie did a good job here because he did have good assistants but if he went to Texas OR USF without the authority to hire whomever he wanted or needed then that is totally on him and proves his weakness as a head coach. I still believe we would have been better off if he had accepted the job at Tennessee before the Texas job was offered. Our AD at the time told me that UofL was NOT going to even attempt to match the offers at either school because they were ready to move on in another direction.

Charlie couldn’t hire Clint Hurtt at Texas because Texas would not agree to defy the NCAA’s show-cause order. That’s “sort of” on Charlie, but not totally. Nobody in the college football world has hired Clint since that show cause was issued, but he’s proven that he’s an amazing coach by rising to the Seahawks DC position.

He’d definitely be one of my top choices for HC if Satterfield ever left.

Pushup I really liked Clint Hurtt as well but he was his own worst enemy for a college level football program. Not only could he coach he was an outstanding recruiter. He is much better off at the NFL level rather than college coaching.
