Per the Twitters, William & Mary freshman Chase Audige is transferring to NU. 6'4", 193-lb SG. All-CAA freshman team. Shot 37% from 3, 47% overall, and averaged 9.6 points per game. Chipped in some rebounds and assists as well. Apparently a very good defender.

So, when people here look into Chase this board is going to go a little nuts.

Jeff Borzello has him ranked ahead of Charlie Moore in the transfer portal.

He wasn't playing against Big Ten talent, but he tore it up on both ends of the court. Big guard with hops. Nice stroke (37% from three). Sees the floor and passes well.

Looks like a player the ranking guys completely missed.

His coach got screwed. Huge f up by William and Mary....delusional administration.

After the Ryan Taylor experience, I think we should pump the brakes on expectations based on performance in mid-major leagues. Taylor shot 42% from 3 with Evansville but 33% at NU.

Hoping Chase matures well and is a good player for NU but let's wait until he actually plays B1G hoops before we get nutso.

When can he play?
He will sit out this coming year and then will be eligible for three years. The sitout means he practices with team and is under scholarship but at game time he sits on the bench in street clothes.

To answer Fitzphile, Audige is not the second coming of Oscar Robertson, as they used to say in my youth in Indiana, but as it stands now he will play a definite role in the success of future NU teams.

Welcome Chase! The future of NU Hoops might be very bright if things come together.

Amazed by CCC's ability to hold his cards so close to the chest. This one, once again, wasn't even on the radar. I'm never going to doubt his (and staff's) ability to recruit.

I believe Haywood mentioned at one point that after that first recruiting class, CC has kept things low key in recruiting. As much as we all would love to know who they may be pursuing, we don’t necessarily have to know.

As long as the staff keeps landing them

Welcome Chase!

Unlike RT, Chase is a freshman and will have time to develop.

As for going nutso, the warning is way late.

Interesting case-- I'll admit I had no idea who he was. Odd that he selected W&M out of high school in the first place, as he was their only ranked recruit (a 3 star 86 at 247, same as Tap for reference) in a number of years and he had offers from better schools with better recruiting classes. And, he apparently has interest from even bigger schools (Nevada, Providence, and Wake, though the latter is a dumpster fire) this time around

But, to put this in perspective, had he been in our 2018 recruiting class, he would have ranked last, a full 30 spots behind Ryan Young. But they will both not likely benefit from year off (although with all the turnover and general turmoil at W&M grounds for a waiver would certainly not be impossible) so who knows?

vs Notre Dame - 27 mins, 8 pt (2-5 from 3), 4 rbs, 1 steal, 4 fouls

vs Virginia - 27 mins, 7 pt (1-4 from 3), 3 rbs, 2 steals

CAA Championship game loss vs Delaware - 28 mins, 3 pts (0-1 from 3), 2 rbs, 0 steals

(Interesting) vs Delaware earlier in the year - 33 mins, 17 pts (3-5 from 3), 10 rbs, 2 blks, 3 steals

Supposedly he was hobbled by an ankle injury at year-end.

I started to think something like that. He was a pretty consistent double-digit scorer until 2/3-ish of the way through the season. Then it became single digits with one two-minute game near the end of that streak.

Seems like he was trying to play through something, then it got the best of him.

Audige seems like a promising prospect.

At rhe minimum, could end up being a solid back-up at the 2, w/ the upside being could challenge for the starting spot.

The 2019-20 season likely will be another long one, but starting w/ 2020-21, the 'Cats should start making some noise again.

He looks like Anthony Gaines with a jump shot.

Definitely nice to see someone pick NU. I’m going to hold off an excitement until I see the kid play. We still only have nine guys for the court next year.

Even if Chase can't play for us next year, it will be good to have a tenth guy at practice to run scrimmages, particularly a long athletic guy.
Welcome to the family, Chase!

He's an upper major player is the point. He made that clear his freshman year.

Taylor was a finished product when he transferred into NU. Chase is a 19 year old frosh.

I didn't tell ESPN to rank him ahead of Moore in the transfer portal.

Nebraska cut loose two more players. I believe that makes five total that they've told there won't be a spot.

NCAA rules say that when there's a coaching change they can separate players from the team, but they have to honor the academic scholarship.

It'll be interesting to see in this year of mega transfers if the NCAA allows these young men to play. And given that hundreds and hundreds now choose to move, what is the benefit of making them sit a year?

He was ranked 40th among the transfers having to sit out a year. Do you consider this a high ranking?
.

Yes. Does it mean a damn thing - No. It is clear that Collins and his staff determined they needed an athletic two guard who would be ready to contribute after this season. The only guys slated to graduate in the next two years are the only 2 guards on the roster.

Not that I disagree with your overall skepticism, but how could anyone reliably rank transfers? Different conferences, different positions, different circumstances. At least all the high school players in the Rivals 150 are usually their team's stars and the analysts get to see them play each other.

Same could then be said about incoming Frosh

He is not an athletic 2 Guard....he's a PG.
Terminology confusion here... the only 2-guards (shooting guards for old school types) on the roster, namely Gaines and Turner.

Also, in addition to Greer we have Buie as a 1-guard (Point Guard, or as I prefer for CCC's system, Lead Guard).

In AAU ball the top 150 is dispersed nationally. There are some tournaments where top players bump into each other.

Seeing a player go up against D1 talent, IMO, provides a lot more info than AAU ball. Even if it's a mid major.

Not saying he's a star, but looks to be a very well rounded player.

Ranking of players is done solely for fans of teams and has nothing to do with anything. The guess work has become more accurate because the kids compete against each other but its still educated guess work. There are roughly 4500 division one basketball players so about 1125 are recruited each year. So how do you really differentiate from the top 20% to top 30% each year. Think about that, fans question if a kid is in the top 150 or 200 and that's literally the top 20 percent of kids that year.

Definitely appear to be a high level athlete that will fit in the Big 10 well. Sounds like he's a kid that didn't have a great shot in high school, but has improved it. If he can use this next 18 months to improve that even further, we could have a really nice player on our hands. The athleticism, and reported hustle, are definitely things to be excited about.

This is my evaluation too. Chase slots in really well into the current depth chart — he can back up senior-year Gaines in 2020-2021 as a redshirt Soph, and then have a chance to win a starting role for his final two years in the program.

At the very least, he’s an athletic, high-motor guy who can come off the bench and contribute. At best, he’s a shooting guard that will blossom into a Big Ten starter as a fourth- and fifth-year player.

Welcome, Chase!
