Count me as intrigued... though it looks like he was recruited primarily by Jeff Capel and says that he wants to transfer somewhere closer to home (Las Vegas... dad played for UNLV).

On the plus side, he seems legitimately interested in academics. His Duke profile notes a 3.86 high school GPA and he was All-ACC Academic.

For such a high academic performer at an institution like Duke, per linked article, UNLV would seem an odd choice. But, what else is nearby? AZ St? Not much better, if at all.

I could see Stanford or Cal pretty easily. Flights between San Jose and Oakland are quick, abundant, and VERY cheap. Could easily see UCLA as well if TJ Leaf goes pro. 4 hour drive or again very cheap and quick flights.

I think this fellow would look great on a line with Pardon, Rap, Lindsey and BMac. NU is closer to Nevada than Duke too. I hope we get this player. I just hope he doesn't turn out like that other 6'10" Duke castaway that Carmody banished from the gym like ten years ago. I forget his name? Michael Thompson or something like that? I remember seeing him from the stands just walk away from the team at the start of the game- with Bill totally ignoring him. That really sucked. Carmody did the same thing to him that he did to Coble. Maybe CC could work some magic here.

This guy would be essentially perfect as a 4/5 player who has great length, a shot and a pretty good handle, and would almost certainly start. Here is a junior highlights video. I'm sure he'd be stronger now.

FWIW, out of HS he seems to have gotten offers from Cal, AZ, and UCLA among others. He was also offered by Gonzaga, which seems to a "transfer specialist". He did NOT seem to have been offered by Stanford or NU (which seems odd).

Of course the offer situation as transfer may be different.

You may not have full information about MT's situation. Apparently a very serious (life threatening) medical issue led to his quitting the team. Do some search and you will find info about it.

BC did recruit him out of HS, and was genuinely excited when he joined the program as a transfer.

Lots of direct flights from Chicago. Probably not from DUKE. Once you are flying it pretty much doesn't matter if the flight is 1 hr longer. But that is different from having to make connections like he would from Duke. Otherwise he would have to get to someplace he could drive from. Cal, AZ, and not much else would be close enough for that.

The issue with Chase is he has a back back. Had surgery this season for a herniated disc. Could be why he wants to be closer to home.

He'd have to sit out a year because of the transfer, so that would in principle allow time for the back to recover and get strengthened. He'd be available for 2 seasons starting the year NU moved to the new, tiny gym.

Gee, I thought Collins was the only guy who ran off players from what you hear some people say.

Oh wait, the difference was Carmody for some reason ran off his BEST player.
