After watching Diamond Stone score 39 points I went back and checked final recruiting rankings for 5 star 2015 centers. Stone (6), Ellenson(9), Zimmerman (11) and Jeter was 15 th.
Stone and Ellenson are just better players than the others. Zimmerman is averaging 9 Pts and 7.8 boards in 23 minutes per game. I do believe with more playing time we will see Jeter's numbers improve. He needs one break out double double game and I predict it will come soon. I like the way Ingram has tried to set him up to score when he enters the game.

Jeter still has a little of the deer-in-headlights look to him. I admit he's getting better, but I'm not sure he gets where we need him to be this season yet. That's not a knock on him either. He's going to be a really good player....it just might take a bit to get there.

He has some issues with the physicality, but I think the biggest issue is more the speed. He has multiple would-be assists and rebounds bounce off his hands each game because he isn't quite ready. Very reminiscent of Casey Sanders in that regard, though Chase has a physical upside Sanders did not, and he will be a much better player.

It's difficult to compare Jeter to those guys. Coach K has a system that is not Jeter first or Jeter priority. Stone and Henry will get immediate touches, and Stone sometime comes off the bench. Zimmerman needs to be more aggressive. With Amile being hurt, Jeter will grow and improve. He is definitely hungry and wants the ball. I hope the guards feed him and it will do wonders for his confidence.

Stay in the weight room Chase!

Chase was never even the primary post player on his HS team playing next to Zimmerman when Stone and others were.

Chase's "struggles" are not due to a lack of skills. His poor hands can be attributed to overthinking so taking his eye off the ball last minute to either look at the hoop or finding his defender and even anticipating the ball being delivered at different entry points. If he established is positioning first and sealed the defender and he was strong enough to hold that position he could focus on a move or a shot. Also, I do believe he's setting his hands and asking for the ball at times in the wrong place and the ball is coming in at the only angle it can and Chase can not adjust quick enough.

All in all, these are Coachable things that both more practice, more games and more confidence can aid in development. He definitely has the skill set, the motor, the attitude and the athleticism.

Just my two cents.

Jeter should be very good. He's just not OAD material. Which means he's more like a "normal" high-ranking recruit than some who have played for Duke recently. Most players - even high-ranked players - need a year or so to turn the corner. Easy to forget when you are coming off last year's trio and you have Ingram this year, but those guys are the exceptions.

^agreed. I'm sure all Duke fans would take either of the older Plumlee's, Ryan Kelly or even Amile and all of those guys needed at least a year under their belts to thrive.
