East Lincoln QB Chazz Surratt will have surgery on his elbow at UNC per Ryan Hetman of the Lincoln Times. Status for Friday is uncertain.

Thoughts and prayers to Chazz. He is a great kid and I hate to see him get injured.

We will see him in the game either here or next week I think. Being 7 yards short of the North Carolina all time record career yards can be accomplished. Hope it happens. Just one more throw with the other hand please.

Has already set the record for career touchdown responsibility.

My understanding is Chris Leak called him earlier and wished him the best in breaking the record. Nice.

My understanding is that he will play this Friday night, but will not be playing QB.

Assuming he can play, from the Shotgun/Wildcat formation - run a jet sweep with a forward toss instead of a hand off. Might pick up the 7 yards that way and still get the record.

The coaches should get together and allow a 7 yard, uncontested completion, followed by an intentional delay of game, and then sit Surratt down.

Dont' know if that would be fair to somebody of his status.

I think he should look forward to a bright future and not risk anything else on one or two high school games. If he wasn't such a high caliber player I'd say play, but not in this case. Not playing QB for a few games wont' take away from his mountain of accomplishments. I'd be content playing QB coach until time to transition to UNC.

Having watched him play now for 4 years. I would say a team win is more important to him then the 7 or 8 yards he needs to set another State record. Would love to see his season end on playing field but his health is more important then a game.

If he wants to break the record, it would be easy enough to get 7 or 8 yds with a couple shovel passes...he could do that with his right arm.

Yeah, all it will take is one running play and he'll have it. Or a catch as a wide out.

It sound like all you want is for him to get the yardage, and breake the record, don't matter how. You are risking him his future just for a record?

How is anyone on this board risking his future? None of us, regardless of whether we think he should sit or play, have any say in it whatsoever. The posters are simply proposing scenarios where he could break the record IF it is decided that he can/will play.

I guess NCPreps now knows EB is still playing football too(?) it was interesting to hear their breakdown of last week's W Stokes/F Hills 3-6 second round matchup. Don't think EB took too kindly to that. Been disrespected all year but that was rough. At least print out a bracket and then talk out your *** in vague terms about the matchups, ya know???!

Far fewer errors on NCPreps than I see in newspapers. I saw in one paper in a sport story headline, the word "alignment" spelled as "aligment". Story was written by the sports editor. Not the first error nor will it be the last. What the heck - he gets paid the big bucks to do his job but isn't doing so well.

Latest news from the Lincoln Times about Chazz: Since the surgery will take place after this week’s playoff game, Surratt has not been ruled out against East Burke, pending his doctor’s approval. But if he does play it will be sparingly and will not be at quarterback, Byus said.

Smh at Byus Wow! I guess having an EL player to hold the record means just as much to him as the kid himself. Chazz has a bright future ahead of him rather it's playing at the next level or more importantly getting an college education at UNC! As a high school coach it's your job to protect these kids from themselves, when it comes to playing while injured, protecting Chazz further should be number one on Byus list at this point. You wanna talk about playing with fire! I mean even Surrants parents should have more sense than this, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't get a call from someone on the UNC coaching staff telling them to sit Chazz.

Ask Chaz what he wants to do? It's not UNCs, Byus or anyone else's decision it's the Surratts.

In the end it is up to Chazz's doctor. If he releases him to play then it's up to Chazz and his parents to decide. The coach will do whatever the doctor says.

Congrats to Mr. Chazz Surratt on the new North Carolina record for career yardage and the touchdown responsibility record. Loss of yardage on the first attempt and took a few plays on shuttle passes to make it happen. Good luck at UNC and we will miss the friday night excitement.
