Cheap Smokes/Cigarettes?

Laying down the cigs is one of the hardest things to do. It's definitely possible, but it's very difficult.

I've done it several times and then picked it back up again. Getting ready to quit again once I see the doc and get a scrip for Chantix. This will be my 3rd time using Chantix. It worked the previous two times, so I expect similar results this time.

Also, I completely dismiss any advice from people that have never smoked before on how to quit.

Truth. Everyone differently. Some can never quit, no matter how hard they try.

I smoked all through my late teens and 20's. Quit the night of Y2K. Picked it back up in 2007. Quit (hopefully for good) in 2015.

I am still addicted. If I picked up a cigarette today, I would be back to smoke 2 packs a day by the weekend. The only thing stopping me is that I am such a tight ***. I was smoking a car payment every month.

I have already told my wife that (God forbid), I ever get diagnosed with a terminal illness, the first thing I am doing is buying a carton of smokes.

Yep, the trick is to treat nicotine addiction like alcoholism. Alcoholics never have another drink after quitting. For some reason I thought I could just have one or two cigs while out with buddies drinking and that would be that. Wrong. The next day it's "I'll just get one pack and be done with it". By the following week, I'm back to a pack a day.

When I quit this time, I'm never touching another one again (I've said that before, of course).

The problem is that I absolutely love smoking. It's relaxing to me. Of course, the only reason it relaxes me is because I'm getting a nicotine fix and a dopamine release.

That said, along with obesity, it is absolutely horrible for your health, but, unlike other things, is 100% preventable. It's also a filthy habit. You stink, your car stinks, your clothes stink, and in this day and age you're almost a social pariah when you go out for a smoke. For those reasons I will continue to try to quit until I kick it for good.

Kudos to you for putting them down for good. I hope to join you soon!

Yep, just like I was. I have decided that like an alcoholic, I will forever be a smoker that just don’t smoke. I keep telling myself that I will stay quit as long as I never put a cig in mouth. I am one cigarette away from being hooked again, it is much too hard to quit for me to start back.

OP and his family should move to Indonesia. According to this article, the cost of cigs there is ~$1.20/pack.

So cheap, even the kids can afford them with their lunch money.

ummm if Chantix worked the first two times, why are you still smoking? If it worked, you wouldn't be smoking, am I right?

I'll choose to ignore the snark.

The first time I took it I quit in about two weeks and didn't smoke for just over a year before I started back again.

The 2nd time I quit for three months.

So, yes, Chantix absolutely works to help you quit. It's not the drug's fault that I'm a dumbass just like it's not an antibiotic's fault if it gets rid of the flu and I get it again a year from now.

Keith Richards is 75 and has been smoking at least 72 years along with a Heroin habit for at least 70 years amongst other drugs. Dude seems to be just fine

Keith Richards explained his secret to longevity years ago:

He only does (did?) high quality drugs, not the cheap stuff.

If you can find them LD and Eagle 20’s run around $3.50 a pack.

Tobacco sheds and discount tobacco stores should have them.

I had a colleague at work who would try to quit by taking up vaping. he was still driving drunk, just switching vehicles. Of course he was back on cigarettes within a month.

I am the same way as you...absolutely love smoking. I have an addictive personality to begin with, so that doesn't help. The after dinner cigarette is one of the most satisfying feelings achievable. Smoking while drinking? Pure Nirvana.

Good Luck quitting. You can do it, as you have before. I think you have to find a reason to keep on the wagon. For me it is financial. The health angle is a good one as well. Do it for a family member, You just need a great excuse NOT to fire up again, when the week moments occur.

Because they will occur.

You got this.

Have you looked at him though?

I guess I got not room to talk, he's getting way more quality tail at 75 looking like wrinkled old leathery death than I'll ever get.

I've been in the same boat, off and on. My wife can smoke a few cigs at a party, easily not smoke again. If I do, I go all in, I LOVE smoking. If I could pick one thing to do without repercussions, it would be to smoke. The only way I can quit is to go cold turkey. I can quit for 5 years, walk by someone smoking and get the urge again.
