If the Cherokee team that came to the Hill and punched Murphy in the mouth shows up, Cherokee will no doubt win. This is not a vintage Albemarle team by any stretch.
8 years can make a lot of difference. 2010 when Mitchell played Albemarle in the 1AA West Regional championship and lost 22-7 and Albemarle went on to win the state. Albemarle had I believe 65 players no one going both ways, I've never seen a 1A school with that many players. We are still trying to recover from almost having the school closed to 6 different coach's in 6 years..We still have a ways to go..Just hope we can be competitive in this game....
Is the school safe now or still talk of closingWe are still trying to recover from almost having the school closed to 6 different coach's in 6 years..We still have a ways to go..Just hope we can be competitive in this game....
I'm not sure about what first 5 games you are talking about. They went 3-2, beating Choctaw, Asheville School (Not Asheville High School), and Gladiator Sports Academy. They lost to North Buncombe at home. Smoky Mountain is the only team of quality that they played, and the Braves lost 28-12 on the road. Cherokee struggled thru conference play, getting Clobbered at home vs Swain, letting Rosman, Hayesville and Andrews hang aroung, getting thumped on the road by Robbinsville, before giving Murphy a 1 half scare at the hill. I think the Braves will beat Albemarle, but beating Mitchell in Ledger this year is a stretch.
After Murphy thumped Cherokee last season, I personally gave them zero chance of beating Mitchell in Ledger. I don't look for a repeat of last year, but i also never believed Cherokee would go to Mitchell and win last year.
No one is over looking Cherokee. Last year Mitchell was a senior lead experienced team and on paper would have bet on Mitchell but we forget these are just kids and things don't always go as planned. This year Mitchell is a young team but they do have talent a quick running QB with a good arm , good receivers especially #10 (who is playing with a heavy heart his younger brother by one year unexpectedly died a few weeks ago ). Good RB 6' 205 and a good line 5'10" 230- 6'1" 310- 6'3" 270- 6'6" 305. And I believe they can play with anyone in the playoffs but it's highschool football anything can happen. After Murphy thumped Cherokee last season, I personally gave them zero chance of beating Mitchell in Ledger. I don't look for a repeat of last year, but i also never believed Cherokee would go to Mitchell and win last year. Of course Cherokee needs to take care of business against Albemarle for a rematch to happen.
Yeah it's hard, both him and his brother really good kids. HIs older brother played last year and had to leave WCU football because of something they discovered he was born with and can't play anymore and he has been helping the coaches while going to the local Community College. Thier little brother who played basketball had a blood aneurysm that he was born with but no one knew. This is the second year in a row the kids at Mitchell have had to deal with a death like this.Hate to hear that about his brother and a heavy heart in a kid is a double edged sword that could go either way, hope it works out in a positive way for that kid!! Anything can happen!!
Yeah your right. The boy last year was the field goal kicker for two years but he was born with a heart defect and the doctor finally said he couldn't kick anymore and couldnt take a chance of getting hit even before he would kick and then get out of the way. So he was helping at the games. In fact I have disability issues with a leg and after a game need help to the car on cart and the last time I saw him he helped me in the car and said I'll be praying for you and the next week from his heart issue he fainted on that cart fail out a hit his head in the parking lot at school and passed away.Dang, that'd be hard for most adults to process!!
They'll probably put another concession stand on the visiting side like they did for the heritage game this year. If you can believe that far out weather channel give 39° which is alot warmer then I thought it would be with a 40% chance of rain. And do bring a crowd we need the money. But it will be a fun & great football atmosphere. No one is down playing Mitchell. We are actually hoping they lose during their bye week. But I will say this, 1st things first. Albemarle. 2nd thing: Mitchell. If and when Cherokee rolls up to Ledger if there is no rain in the forecast ...look out. Cherokee will be as tough as anyone. The pregame regiment with the cowboy music really hyped us up last year. Braves faithful will be there 3 hours early. Order double everything for concession. Last year y’all ran out of food before halftime.
Did you know that during the playoffs that the home team pays the visiting team $270 for meals and 75 cents per mile after 75 miles. The schools split the gate after nchsaa gets thier 15%.Sell hot chocolate and chili and you’ll make 10 grand
What really should have been done here years ago when they built four new middle schools was to consolidate into two high schools and use the current high schools as the middle schools. That’s just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions.
Will the game be broadcast?
