One thing about Coach Briggs today, he was all business and focused. The press conference was the last place he wanted to be it seemed lol, not that he wasn't very polite and welcoming. But you could tell he was ready to get back to practice and to work for the Braves for Saturday!!!!

It comes down to coaching. That is the biggest difference but there are few things I’ve noticed about the two. The 06 Braves blew thru the conference and from image standpoint, they were bigger. They were not really tested and I believe that was a problem. As I’ve stated before that group was dominate and had layers of talent that stretched from 05-08. This years team did blow out Swain by the largest margin I’ve ever seen but didn’t have a yellow brick road and did lose to Murphy badly. In comes coaching. Briggs does have athleticism and the closest RB equivalent to Woods when healthy. Briggs brings an offense not entirely one dementinal. The 06 ran the ball and from what I saw maybe passed the ball only 10 times. If I’m exaggerating then it be 10s too high. Once the run was shut down so was the team. 2017 Braves didn’t show up for Murphy but beating Mitchell proves this is a whole new team. They are proving themselves. Previous teams would doubt their chances if they had a loss like that to Murphy but these boys fall back on their talent and it is coming full circle. I can already hear their patented war call now!
Watching that game Cherokee does quite a few things on offense. Mintz can run it but has some good targets as well. If Evans is on then the Braves will be a load. I think this team is playing its best at the right time. Just an interesting match up between two familiar teams
I think we're peakin at tha right time for sure!! In my opinion, nd is gonna have to have tha depth and and resemble Murphy out tha yin yang to beat us this year!! Or there gonna have to be just as physical as robinsville, I woulda hated to see robinsville in tha playoffs!! And Mitchell wasn't no small task, tha score didn't show tha physical part of tha game!! Just hope our boys don't overlook nd!!!
You know you can't overlook just what Cherokee did the other night. They went to an extremely tough place to play against a great team that is extremely well coach, that has a quarterback and running back that are really special, were state playoff seasoned, and had beaten the Braves four times in the last three years including twice just a year ago. And Cherokee overcame all those odds and adversity. Amazing job by the coaches and players and they can either be satisfied or keep that momentum rolling into Saturday. I fully expect the latter.
Cherokee has a strong wall up front that realizes on strength more than quickness. The qb can throw the ball 50yds with good accuracy and recievers have good hands. The qb scramble when he has to and qb draw is always a threat. ND runs the option well. The qb runs thru hole one cant see on film. The line is strong and well coached. Have 2 running backs, one for up the middle one for off tackle. Pass defense has kept aerial teams from breaking games open. ND average passing 10 yds a game. Which defense can hold is which team wins. Bring it Home Rebels!
It's really unbelievable a team is 14-0 and playing for a state title and averaging 9.1 yards passing a game, having completed just 8 passes. But then you see they are rushing for 324 yards per game with Archer at 130 a game, Sheppard at 100 a game, and Bass at almost 70 yards a game. Pretty clear they are very good at what they do, and either you stop it, or you don't. Cherokee will have to be the first this season to do it. What a game this is shaping up to be.
Last I heard Young had no interest in playing college ball. He wants to be a pharmacist and wants to focus in school.

Fellers I'm askin in no other way but not knowin!! I hear unz say there physical but I heard that about tj!! Can they take a hit?? If nd wins they'll know they played football come Sunday!!!
Have they (ND) changed as far offense from last year. And how were the physically? This year the veteran teams took over and showed their experience. That experience should help the Braves. Just wondering what has changed.

What's changed towards us or nd?? We can go under center without fumblin and our long snapper is a mature senior!!! So tha run game shuts down for nd and then what?? Tha 2 teams from out that way have been pretty soft!! It's easy to be a gorilla in a room full of chimpanzees son!!
That score last year could've been worse and you know it whoever was there, I mean we still make mistakes but not as costly as last year it seems like!! I seriously don't see 3 runnin backs out your way takin a beatin like whats comin and keep truckin!! If it was Murphy, r-ville or swain then I'd buy in a little more!!
Oh no the big bad mountain team is going to beat up the flatlanders. Please, it's option football North Duplin's backs have been getting popped all year. After they get hit they get right back up and do it again because they know it's for the good of the team. You may be right that your defense hits harder than any conceivable beings ever to put on pads before now and that North Duplin hasn't been hit like this. But one thing is that when a game like this is on the line the kids wearing Green and Gold will not fold they will not drop their heads, they will continue with the plan the coaches set for them. They aren't going to be scared. They don't give two flips what the name on the jersey across from them says or what logo is on the side. They just play ball. It's a mentality for them and they won't be scared to get hit. After your kids keep hitting them and they keep getting back up asking for seconds, that's when you know you've been in a game.

We've seen tha veer this year and done pretty good against it, guess tha flatlander veer just better then tha mountain veer!! Haha!!!
Nothing has changed. Nd will hit you just as hard as you hit them. To me all 3 running backs average probably 4 or 5 yards a carry after first contact. A lot of times they are dragging 3 or defenders for 3 or 4 yards and one of them would rather run you over then make a juke so yes they will take your hits and keep coming back for more. Your question should be whether or not who is gonna win the breaks battle bc that's what it is going to come down to in the end.
I can’t wait !!! This is gonna be a battle of wills . If Nd can 3 yard is to death could be a long day but if we can get them in 3rd and Long could be a long day for Nd . Only time will tell one thing for sure them braves better be disciplined . If the braves can get the ball I think we can score
Union was not a good match up for them Kevin. ND is not the speed/athletic teams of WRH and ED. They are more physical grind it out. Union has some very good athletes so they can cause some real problems, and were better than their record. Imo though, if the Braves play close to what they did at Mitchell, they will win the state title
When you play 14-15 games in a season you're very likely to have played against a particular type of offense. I'm 100% sure Cherokee is going to give ND all they want and then some. But I am telling you that just because you think you're swinging a big stick doesn't mean that teams will just fold against you. North Duplin has heart they have pride and they won't let any team just walk all over them without putting up a fight. I don't have ties to ND except for being a native of the county. But their staff and their kids will not allow themselves to get hit and stay down. It's never been in their blood. You said it yourself that last year's score could have been worse, but you didn't see any quit in that ND team and you won't see it Saturday.
There were a lot of flags thrown in that game, plus they won't playing 100% and Union caught them off guard, but a win is a win by 50 or by 1, as far as not so special Princeton, well there has been a rivilry between ND & Princeton for a long time, it was Princeton's homecoming as well, Princeton played 4 2A teams & 1 3A team in non-conf play, ND won only by a touchdown to Rosewood & Lakewood, I reckon these team are "not so special", maybe you think the whole Carolina Conf., is "not so special" too...ND were losing to Cherokee last year in the 2nd round 22-7 after 3 quarters, but scored 13 in the 4th....they lost, but only by 2
Hey we had our bad games believe that we was down to rosman and Murphy just beat us up . Hopefully we can bring it sat . Two physical teams playing for it all lets get it on

If you're on the home side Saturday, bundle up. You will get all shade! When R'ville played Plymouth it was mild but unfortunately the sun never shined on us.
To all the ND fans... coming from a Plymouth Viking fan, congrats on the chance to bring the gold back to the east. As far as all the mouth coming from the West, take it with a grain of salt! Plymouth has competed and won against those mountain boys and still struggle to gain respect. We have heard all the excuses from a weak schedule to not being able to take a hit. And guess what... when the whistle blew, they were always 2 teams fighting for the same thing. We won some, we lost some... but we always competed! I would expect Cherokee to be bigger and maybe a little more physical then nearly everyone you played this year. But it is 1 game for all the marbles, whoever controls the clock and has the least turnovers will win. Plymouth runs 4 run plays and 1 pass play, and everybody knows it. But guess what, we won several rings doing it. So I guess what I'm trying to say is.... go to Raleigh, do what you've been doing, and 2 things will happen. You'll win and the West will come up with some excuse on why, or you'll lose, and they will say I told you so. But you still can take pride in being 1 of 2 teams standing in 1a football right now. Enjoy the ride and send those mountain boys back with there tails between there legs!!! Viking Pride!!!! Go ND..
Thanks vikingfan8, yall have represented the East well the last few years and hope we can do the same this year. Saturday will be the day this group of Rebels and Braves will always remenber either with "what if" or "we did it" the rest of their lives. Whatever happens both teams are headed for a great experience and have so much to be proud of. Keep it Rolling Rebels.....
