can they strike a deal? Will it be a blow to American production? Will it weaken Trump's negotiating position?

MAGA! As if isolationism has ever benefited a Country, it's a global economy whether the Trump rubes believe it or not. They will still be waiting on those Coal mining jobs to come back, meanwhile Volvo announces they are phasing out combustion engines entirely.

I hear the horse and buggy is making a comeback, just think of the jobs for stable hands, farriers, etc.

Yep. There are costs and benefits to being world leader. Trump supporters like to focus on the costs but not the benefits. Part of the benefits are the just about everyone wants to trade with you. And trading benefits both parties.

The US can yell "WE'RE MAD AT YOU!" and go off into it's bedroom and slam the door and stew. Meanwhile the rest of the world goes on without us. And the longer they go on without us leading the more they'll get used to the idea and decide they don't need us to lead anyway.

Isolation in the year 2017 is bad for any country.

I didn't know that about Volvo. I just looked it up. Starting in 2019 they'll make either EVs or hybrids.

So in less than 1.5 years from now a major car company that has been around forever and that everybody know will make zero gas-only cars. The times they are a-changin', and for the better.

I'm sure that every time bits of news like this come out the butts of the Saudis clench a little tighter.
